Malice, note that I said in time a newb will become a vet. This means becoming a vet does not happen immediately after listening to the advice of vets or taking cadet. The basic understanding of the game given by advice from a vet and cadet allows the newb to gain more experience and understanding needed to progress to a vet.

In a sense, BoG has a point, in that to really be a vet, you must have your own understanding of the game, not just be able to parrot Cadet and the vets who've taught you.
On the other hand, by that logic, "Joe Einstein who just started playing this game but understands it faster than people who've been playing 7 years!!!!" is a vet, because he has his own understanding of the game. In order to really be a vet, that internal understanding of the game must conform generally to, and usually be informed by, the collective wisdom about the game, or you're just a clueless voob who thinks he or she is a vet.

This has nothing to do with Joe Einstein, leave him out of it.
He will gladly settle that dispute in game.

Actually I think you have bastardized that term. When it was originally coined, it meant someone who was supposd to have enough time into the game to be a vet, but still did really stupid things as if he were a newb.
In reality everyone who's lost their newb tag generally thinks they are a vet. I don't think this is quite the case. Newb tags only last for a short time intentionally to push people into the vet server and not be coddled by the newb server (originally newb tags lasted much longer, to like level 15 instead of 5 and it took months and months to lose it). In reality, you are still very much newb after you lose your tag for anywhere from 3-6 months until you really learn the game.
After that you should generally be considered a vet, of varying skill, unless you have the stupidity disease which makes you do dumb things about which you should know better. In that case you are a voob. However, it seems most people confuse newbs without a tag with voobs, which is unfair to the newer players of the game.

I am using the definition that is most familiar to me, and what I believe is the real definition, as formed by the community, during my tenure as a player, not the denotated "Vet Club Definition".
