Bah rushing spec mines is no good, u can build them l8 wen u have adv tech but never and i mean never throw away 10-18k just to research them and not building them , that is a waste of time and money and it will cost u the game
And ya there is only 1 time wen it's good to rust spec mines in huge maps but and i repeat myself : don't f$%^ spend money on them wen u are under attack and need that money for upgrading techbases

Blaik,

If I could reach you, I would hug you.

Now with that said, I'm noticing a lot of negative attitudes about newbie coms as of late. I understand being frustrated when someone doesn't listen (OMG, BUying a ur mine first will get us so much money!!!!111), especially when the coms are not balanced. It isn't fun to spend 60% of the game in a pod.

What I don't understand is when novice coms who DO listen get their share of grief vets who really should know better and voobs who need to STFU. *I've* had more than my share of grief when I tried to emulate something I saw aarm do, or wanted someone to backseat me. I'm not as hard-headed as most people -- eventually I just stopped trying to com "real" games, even when no one will step forward. Let them all rot in NOAT, I can clean my kitchen.

I've also seen poor behavior from vets when two novice coms are squaring off, which I don't understand. If two novice commanders (or v00b commanders) are playing, jump in and help them out. They may be receptive to advice. Even if they are trying to work something out on their own, you can hijack the team and rally them to bomb, or kill miners. You can d their miners for them, and keep them out of trouble. You can do something to give the commander one less thing to think about. If the team responds, then cool. If not, that's hardly the com's fault.

This happened last night. A novice com took a lot of heat from his team, when really the team blew its chance to win the game when it could, and blamed the com for no being able to command his way of the ditch the team dug itself.

That all said, if you want to learn how to command, follow what Mr Chaos has been doing.

1) Fly for a long time. Fly for at least 6 months. Do @cadet, get to know the vets, and let the vets get to know you.
2) Once you have the reputation as a capable pilot, ask the well-known commanders to backseat you. Use TS and talk things out with them
3) Profit...somehow

yeah, being a regular on ts helps out a lot. Not only will you learn faster, but it generates good PR. If you can get a few of the better ts whores on your team, then there's a much better chance that some of the other vets will be willing to fly for you.

Yes he kicked my ass that game....

And for the record, it wasn't a rush, it was a well utilized 2miner econ with spec refs thrown in when he could.

This is correct.

A lot of times when I command I sit on TS with gui and we both discuss what we are doing and bitch about our team. It makes both of us better commanders when gui explains to me how I am $#@!ing up and what I should be doing better
