.. thx TE.
old posts' wisdom.
If you looked at the documentation and comments in the alleg code you will see that the work over the last year is - at least - not below the average.
Maybe the dev team should describe how they want to work together with the devzone leader and with the community? I think the current situation of a dev team without a community, and the community with a skelleton dev team is bad for both sides.
Also an alternative to the current use of svn as extended compiler/spellchecker/"god-machine" is needed. Maybe create a branch on our svn server, and only merge back complete and tested changes (without "missing ; added").
I am very unhappy with the current situation and the conflicts, and I hope that we all focus on what kept the community together over the last years: What is good for our favourite game? What is good for the best computer game i ever played?

Imago is the only remaining person in the dev team who has overview of most of the code. I think it is a bad idea to let him go. We were aware that some people in the dev team are difficult, and we know that the main challenge of the dev ZL is solving conflicts. I think we - the community - must find a way that our developing team can be productive and motivated.Eris wrote:QUOTE (Eris @ Sep 16 2010, 06:54 PM) Finally, I can't imagine why anyone's interested in pandering to imago anymore. Should just ignore him until he goes away.

I have a johnson photo in my profile since 2010.
People were working for months on the same branch.lexaal wrote:QUOTE (lexaal @ Sep 16 2010, 09:16 PM) Also an alternative to the current use of svn as extended compiler/spellchecker/"god-machine" is needed. Bard is currently working on a updating trunk, because the current branch contains to many changes.
This should be done much earlier, but the was no one doing it. It's a bad ass job.
Best way would be giving every dev it's own branch on svn, so he can work on his tickets and others can also look at code he's currently working on. If work is finished and changes are transfered to trunk, leave that brunch on server and start a new one or overwrite it with latest trunk to work on next bug/feature.
The pro of imago's setup (automatic builds with automatic updating testing environment behind) is, other people can test on your changes imitatively.
The Escapist (Justin Emerson) @ Dec 21 2010, 02:33 PM:
The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
"Types legibly" and "idiotic viewpoint"? Really, it should be pretty clear who he's referring to. I've got enough education and experience to understand what's going on, but not so much that I'd feel confident stepping up and getting involved. So I take the layman's perspective on devteam issues, that perspective being "I don't care what happens as long as @#(! gets finished and the entire devteam doesn't ragequit". Additionally, I'm paying attention to what people say - Imago's brought up some apparently valid grievances, and when even the likes of pkk and Xynth are insinuating that the status quo isn't completely perfect, odds are good there's something more to the problem than "Imago's having his period".
What exactly is up? I don't really know, but I know why it's not getting resolved: because the two groups are fed up with each other to the point where nobody's got much appetite for listening to anyone else, so they just talk past each other and frustration builds up on both sides. In addition, there seem to be a lot of differences in A reasonable public discourse might help, but old grudges and the usual suckups and cheerleaders are drowning out the people who are trying to identify problems and suggest possible resolutions - several great bridge-building plans have been utterly ignored by the crowds of people rushing to argue about the beauty and elegance of THEIR side of the gaping chasm between devs and admins. I'm trying to draw attention to that: everyone's too busy making popcorn to realize this is stuff that needs to be resolved. I think quite a few people are forgetting that this is a volunteer position, and as enthusiasm fades into cynicism, people are getting annoyed and making regrettable decisions.

You're good enough, you're smart enough, and dog gone it, people like... oh, hi there!
Seems like you caught me in the middle of my daily self pep chat. You see, most of you might not know this but, well, I am not perfect, Don't look so alarmed, it's true. I'm just like most of you, with several imperfections and my own tiny list of problems. Part of my daily routine involves figuring what I want to accomplish to make me a better person.
In my experience I find that it helps if I write down my goals. For instance, I have decided to drink less during the week, in the mornings. Hopefully, writing down my goals and seeing them on the screen will have more of an impact on my willpower.
In this world we share together we are hundreds of different players with multiple callsigns each with different wants and needs. Writing down our goals makes them tangible. Let's hold ourselves accountable for ourselves.
I'll start with some fresh actionalizing:
Today I will try to stack more on GT and crow about it so that I can identify with mastametz and bridge the gap of hatred. I will also put my mouse cursor in the channel flags box of #RollingThunder and then strap buttered toast to my cat's back and drop him from the bookshelf onto my keyboard to see what happens.
See, now those goals are real. Makes you feel all fuzzy inside. Sharing and writing your goals will make you more successful and more confident.
Please share with the thread, what are some of the accomplishments that you would like to complete this week?
TTFN!

This week I have to:
Pay $155 to VMCAS for Veterinary School Applications.
Pay $70 to University of Minnesota for Veterinary School Applications. (processing fee my ass)
Finish a personal statement for Veterinary School Applications.
Finish the application for Veterinary School Applications.
Run a TBARS reactions. Read the data using a fluorometer.
Run a color plate analysis on Phenolics and read the data using a spectrophotometer.
Run a experiment involving soybeans, fix the soybeans and send them to Alabama for electron microscopy.
Interview for a position at a nearby veterinary hospital, basically in the top 3 of the veterinary hospitals I would like to work at over the next year.
Learn how to cook a German dish: Found a recipe for german lasagna and I'm going with it.
Learn how to cook a Greek dish: Souvlaki.
Finish playing Baldur's Gate 2: Shadow of Amn, decide if I want to dedicate myself to playing the sequel, Throne of Baal.
Weight loss check: Hoping to lose another quarter pound, I'm within 5 lbs of my goal.
Next week is going to be easy. =\
