ZOMG ALLEGIANCE IS DYING!

Everything dies. Even video games =)
Alleg won't be around forever. Those that think we'll still be playing Alleg in 15 years are crazy. It's a miracle it's lasted this long, but eventually the community will slowly fade away.
If we are all still playing in 15 years, you can quote me and laugh at me. I hope this happens, but it won't.
But, having 500 actives is a hell of a lot better than what we used to have in the SOVroute days. If I saw 30 people playing I thought I was in heaven.

Does it count if it's called Allegiance II or III by then?
I bet it will happen

I think that in 15 years something better will come out that we'll all move to. I'm quite shocked that nothing has come about in the last 10, but games have moved away from the complexity of Alleg and more towards the mass market simplicity of shooters and looters. Nothing says that it won't swing back the other way someday, though. The bigger the video game market gets, the more niches to be found and the more profitable they will be. Somebody will surely capitalize on our niche, right?
..... right?
=P Obviously I can't predict the future, but this game is not getting any younger. The only way we'd ever attract a big size playerbase to replace our leaving vets is with a graphics overhaul. If we could make Alleg look like EVE, we could make some flashy trailers and catch people's interest. It may be "shallow" but it's how you get people excited about a game. In a trailer, you can't show the feeling you get when you pull off a 10-nan bomb run on an enemy exp 2 sectors behind enemy lines, which is really all Alleg has going for it these days. With new graphics, though, we'd pull in a crapload of people just because the game looks pretty.
Alleg is like the homely girl at the party. She may be the nicest, coolest, most exciting girl there, but you aren't going to give her a second glance because some blond hottie with big tits is standing right next to her. In video game terms, the blond girl is Modern Warfare 2 or any other new release.

No I'm not! Well, I mean, there's the same blond girl from the infamous thread in rants, but some things never change =P
But seriously, tell me I'm wrong. Alleg is a goner sooner or later unless somebody w/ the skills revamps the graphics. Our outflow is bigger than our inflow, and inflow will not magically increase when we have no way of catching people's interest. I wish I had the skill, but I definitely do not, so the most I can do is bitch about it =P

FTR I remember you posting a similar thing 6 or 7 years ago.
The post where you said that although you loved the game it was the people you'd miss.
I really hope you are wrong. Alleg can still lose a lot of players and still be viable, but if a few key individuals pack up their toys then....

Oh I def remember posting that thread, which is why I said it's a miracle it's lasted this long. My timetable may have been off, but I stand by the claim that alleg will eventually die off and fade away. If TE and BV and all the other admin folks decide to pack up shop, we'll be in a sorry state. People might step in to take over, but eventually we'll run out of people w/ the skills to "take over" and the people remaining to keep the game viable. Also, once the younger crowd around my age group starts getting married en mass, has kids, gets a dog or two, and buys a house, Alleg will become less and less of a priority. You old guys may stick around, but you started Alleg when you were already established as far as family life goes =P
I also still stand by my claim that it'll be the people I miss the most. Personally, I would be fine if the servers all shut down tomorrow. I don't play Alleg, really, and haven't for quite some time. But I come to these boards several times a day and have a ton of fun posting and talking to all of you. That's the only reason I'm still involved with Allegiance in any capacity.

Dear Bacon
Many people have been raised around the game *points to you as an example*, and many of them have been having children, getting married, and starting careers without missing a beat. If you decide the game isn't worth your time, as many of people have in the past, then I W-I-L-L miss you pork product. The idea that the community hinges on just one person or a small group has been disproven since *poof* went Pook, Thalgor, Noir, Veincain and others to be replaced by the current tinfoil hat of powah wearing crowd. They go then another group would take there places . Even if we drop Solap, GPZ, and Planet someone Im positive will step up and take our places. TE goes ..|.. Im gone then we use one of the game servers for the lobby, someone rolls up their sleeves and digs into the code *shrug*. Not to discount the big ones contributions, naturally, but when we had the big old cat fight and all the heavy hitters went *poof* everything ended up being a-ok. The game is bigger then any one person or even any one group of people what we need is to keep growing nothing more and nothing less.
