Explosion at Boston marathon
Third person aside this was different then the other events mentioned in this thread. What happened in Norway, New York, and Oklahoma City were worse from a death toll but all were single events in the sense that they, just like the initial bombing in Boston, were done reasonable soon.
In this case:
After placing IEDs at a race killing three, putting several dozen in the hospital under critical condition, and injuring hundreds three days later the bastards:
Shot a police officer in cold blood and for no reason but he was a cop
Car jacked someone at gun point and using the stolen phone to let police know they were the criminals they were looking to find
Got in a high speed chase with police while shooting at and throwing bombs at them
Upon stopping the vehicle got into a firefight exchanges hundreds of rounds with the cops
One of them ran over his own brother after the other was in custody
The none dead brother escaped on foot with said weapons and possibly more bombs
Going in the opposite direction that would have allowed him a better chance of escape.
After all that he then vanished into the neighborhood for many hours
I mean come on that is a pretty extensive list of @#(! things to do even if they never did the initial act.
Excessive use of the search loophole for "hot pursuit" and a disturbing handling of innocent civilians during the initial hours. It appears that one is a yes
Over reaction to the danger? *points upward got to try to remember the details gents* probably but what $#@!ing politician was going not to call out the entire area police force. You want to be the boneheaded numbskull that let him get jiggy with it a THIRD time?
What about all those cops MrChaos? They killed a campus cop, injured a transit cop, and the feds got involved so literally even the dude writing tickets for being loud on the subway or grinding on the library steps had a reason to be involved in the thing.
I would not be at all happy if a copper in full combat gear drove a MRAP on my front lawn, pounded on the door, held a gun on me while making me hold my hands over my head, and then searched my house without my leave. Most likely I would tell him what I though but I'm stupid like that when I feel threatened... but not stupid enough not to put my damn hands over my head and leave the house while doing it.
finally
If anyone else feels the urge to say "only" "just" "crappy little" and the like when describing the IEDs that killed three, caused limbs to be blown off, put dozens in the ICU, and hundreds to go to the hospital can they please do the following
Look at their dominant hand
Think about the dead people
Think about the maimed people
Think about the injured people
Think what a twat they sound like when saying it
Then take that hand and close it into a fist
Then punch themselves in the mouth really, really, really hard
Repeat as needed to get the point across to yourself
Thanks

In a few years, cars will be also reclassified as WMD, finally... I think more people have been killed by car than by WMDs or home-made bombs ever.Viscur wrote:QUOTE (Viscur @ Apr 22 2013, 11:29 PM) They reclassified WMD for homeland purposes as any bomb.
The Escapist (Justin Emerson) @ Dec 21 2010, 02:33 PM:
The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
I was expecting an army of lawyers bombarding the gov't with lawsuits, angry citizens protesting against forced departure of their homes at gunpoint by swat teams. Shop owners claiming loss of sales profit?

Turns out "Weapon of Mass Destruction" is a legal term with a precise definition (meaning, "any bomb"). Not to be confused with the military term with a slightly less precise definition ("any really BIG bomb").

The TSA has never caught a single terrorist yet their bill is in the billions. Our police are becoming increasingly militarized and yet in Boston martial law and the dragnet accomplished nothing, and it wasn't until people were allowed outdoors that Henneberry found Tsarnaev hiding in his boat!"

I also enjoy how a bombing that killed.. 3 people? (a couple more were killed in the aftermath, I think?)
is considered the biggest tragedy since 9/11, whereas the explosion in Texas that killed closer to 100 people is not such a big deal.
The reality is, nobody cares that $#@!ing much about anyone actually dying, unless the TV tells you to feel that way.
The TV says hate Russians because half a dozen people died - and so it shall be.
For most people, It's more about American Pride than anything else.
HOW DARE YOU KILL AN AMERICAN
Stop taking everything so personally. You're not important.
