I never understood people with cats, maybe because this is my dog when he was little:

We are now mixing genetics and species evolution into this pot, maternal instinct is the main way nature helps a kind of being preserve its species and thrive.
Most women can't avoid it, some doesn't have it, but if it was completely absent, Mankind wouldn't have showed up on this dirt patched planet.
And people like cats cause they are special and always been, they see things we don't, I always was a dog guy, having had mutts and breeded pedigree companions most of my life I took this little black four legged beauty from an ill friend who was moving to the countryside to a house in a valley near a river in Aragon he had purchased with his dad heritage, he died less than six months after moving, he had AIDS, controlled with pills, but his lungs were very screwed already.
Guess that's life and death is an important part of it, the end for some, a new begining for others, for me it's not even a nuisance and when it comes it'll find me enjoying a white coffee if I'm that lucky.

Gov't: You two people there, team up, we'll give you tax money.
Hospital: You two people there, do a Gov't approved team up, you can have visitation rights.
Adoption board: You two people there, do a Gov't approved team up, you can have a kid.
Bank: You two people there, do a Gov't approved team up, you can have a better interest rate.
Employer: You two people there, do a Gov't approved team up, we like you better because you are more stable.
Insurance Agent: You two people there, do a Gov't approved team up, you can have lower rates because our stats say teamed people have less maintenance costs.
etc.
etc.
etc.
So, it's really discrimination, ain't it? Can't we agree, that some people get more because they are breeders, and some get less because they are not?
If you really want to make it all about encouraging children making, then chain all tax credits to children, and leave the marriage status out of it.
But, if you want to have a marriage tax credit, then, so sorry, you have to include everyone to do a team pair up. Because it's a federal level tax credit, then, so sorry, you gotta make gay marriage a federally accepted right. So sorry anti-gay people, you charge gay people taxes and then deny them the tax credit. Don't we throw tea in harbors for such things around here?

Still wrong Masta. It has a lot to do with oxytocin levels. Polugamy, polyandry and monogamy can all be found among mammals.
Wolves and beavers are examples of mammals who form stable mated pairs, for instance.
