Not pushing 50 balance patches per year.

Taking the ranking system and making it work, or taking it out the back and putting a bullet in it's head.

Timing-out the people who hoover the fun out of the game. Regardless of the @#(!storm that will ensue, whoever they are.

Switching KB so it has an negative effect on hp, because as we all know: KB IS CHEATING. FACE THE FACTS!!!!!

First person to say "You don't even play any more" will get a bat up their nightshirt.
kb having a negative effect on own hull is an awesome idea. make it so!

but more seriously, having a steady stream of willing commanders is the #1 thing that will keep new players imo.

Ducky at the moment we're lucky to have as many as 5 balance patches per year.

Clearly, you don't even play any more.*runs*

getting rid of KB is the best thing for this game , Sadly I think its a tad too late.

Allegiance IS The Best Game I ever played . But it is Dead and it aint Coming back.

There isnt Enough good Commanders, if you dont have Balanced Comms The Game Sucks.

Can't compete with other F2P games.

Needs a different model, one with more limitations.

Limit of players, limit of time (make games a little bit more predictable, sadly). However, I want to point out its about a respect for your audience's time... so that they know what they are getting into and it wont turn into 3 h turtlefests.

The newbs don't seem to mind the turtlefests. The vets can come back after they are done playing whatever else.

It's funny, because for years the general community attitude chased out not only new players, but novice/average commanders as well. When I stopped playing this game for its scale (because of the decline that everyone said didn't exist caused by the problems that everyone claimed this community didn't have), I kept playing because I went through ACS and I enjoyed commanding. But boom, a few mutinies for trying things that HADN'T been done a million times before, and I questioned why? If people weren't going to let me command because only spideycw can try new things, then why bother? So I, like probably dozens of other commanders at some point, stopped commanding. And then eventually the vet commanders left, and now there's not enough. Kind of ironic, because that exact same thing, the @#(!ty attitude, the community vitriol, the pretending there is not problem, is exactly what helped kill the player count in general as well.

So yeah, it's too late. You're not going to turn 80 people into hundreds, the stage in this game's lifecycle where it can GAIN momentum has passed. Now, since it fills a niche, it could probably have maintained it, but you're not going to grow something like this anymore, it just isn't appealing enough for newbies. The people in this community (and yes, it's not the leadership, it's the freakin community) didn't do a good enough job, and the retarded @#$%@#s who helped create this mess (and everyone knows who they are) can call me a voob, a carebear, a terrible commander or whatever else is in fashion nowadays as many times as they want, but just like how back then it didn't solve the very real problems (that we didn't have), so today it won't bring back the players that are gone.

Sorry for how angry this post was (I've been holding it in for a while), but I loved this game, and it's left a very bitter memory.

Bonus fun fact: Allegiance is the only game I've encountered that has a special derogatory term for someone who isn't new but isn't very good. To say you need a thick skin to survive here is an understatement, you need a :mrtank: . It's no wonder people burn out.

One of the main requirements I had to follow was that it match ASGS's minimum system requirements. That meant using .NET 2.0, which limited us to using WinForms rather than something more modern (and customizeable) like WPF, where we could have essentially *complete* control over how it looked.

If everybody wants to go and download .NET 4.0/4.5 then someone could update the look & feel of the launcher with WPF ;)

Or turn off the authentication system so it's not on the way when trying to run Alleg on Linux.
