Allegiance has permission to use the models any way we want.
Make a new faction with IGC settings that don't suck and use these models rather than let them sit and collect dust.
Then call me
See BV's response later in this topic.

Compellor wrote:QUOTE (Compellor @ Apr 21 2010, 10:02 AM) Perhaps I shouldn't try to make an obviously pointless thread useful, but as someone who didn't play much back in the DN days, I'm wondering, what is it that people liked about/are nostalgic for when it comes to Phoenix? Is it:
The appearance of the ships? <---
Nanless bombers with assault shields? I think generally people don't like these, but find them interesting enough that some wish it could work.
The transceiver base, or just having another research base in general?
The inverse Rix turn rate?
Combat drones? <---
The Vanguard, or some particular aspect thereof? I know I've seen some nostalgia for this one, particularly hyper-boost. <---
Assault constructors?
Nova bombs? These seem to be regarded as fun, but too silly to be a good part of the game. <---
Laser blossom? Laser cannon? Vulcan cannon? <---
Anything I'm missing?

Not if they're copyrighted.

I think Phoenix had more missiles per rack and/or better missile stats. Too lazy to check.
Some epic moments with laser blossoms.
All bomb runs included storming the defenders with ints/figs or juggernauting with several turreted bombers.

I remember some pretty sick games that spidey commed where he went nix tac. Fully pimped out nix SFs with laser blossoms were fun.
Also Vans were more fun to fly than stangs.

More missiles per rack, but with a damage nerf.

They may be copyrighted, but if people really wanted to do this, it'd worth the effort to look them up. Considering they've appeared in many other places aside from Allegiance, the rights to use them may not be particularly expensive/difficult to get.
Who is the mysterious BetaTester?

Oh, it's Imago.

Do you know for a fact Alleg has the right to use them?
P.S. I'm fairly sure that the main reason anyone wants to see Nix brought back
is the cheese. So balancing them would remove the very thing that makes them fun...

Of course the long-standing claim has been that playing them on "normal" money settings would make it hard for them to afford the cheese, etc., but... meh. I want my depleted thorium weapons! PewpewpewpewBOOM!

Noir bought a license for the models for his use from the company that made them.
The reason newbs like Phoenix so much is because they have goddamn ridiculous hitboxes which makes them much harder to hit. Some of the phoenix ships were damn near two-dimensional.
By the time DN 4.60 came out, Phoenix was exceedingly overpowered. They took a number of perks over the course of 3 dn versions because most people were still playing them wrong so they had horrible win/loss stats. This caused Noir to continually perk them until they were OH levels of overpowered.
Essentially - they were cheese.
Newbs would probably love it if we added IC Rookies into CC_10 as well but just like Phoenix, that's not likely to happen.

@#(!, I remember starting in a Phoenix scout and going to pwn miners with the extra missiles. Definitely overpowered

I think a lot of people want Phoenix because it was different. People love the differences that set factions apart, and the noisier ones tend not to look at or notice little changes in ICE like faction modifiers or hull/accel tweaks - they want the BIG, obvious differences like special stations or new ship abilities or extra equipment and whatnot. And the new stuff can't be crappy or else it'll be ignored (like everything GT has that isn't AP HTTs or PT bombers). Thus the anticipation for OH, and the silence after its release as Joe @#(!ty Pilot realizes its unique aspects are mostly only really visible to the comm and gets bored. And thus the desire for Nix, which has plenty to set it apart from the rest (and also happens to be cheese).
