Newbie servers not used
Well 67adious I would be interested as I have had similar thought myself. As I managed to wreck my sigma somehow I can play at the newbie servers again.
One isssue though is that I would guess that newbies and novices rather play in the main game than in a side game, but I could be wrong. All we need to do is ask in NOAT in between games.
As we are in the same country we would be on roughly at the same time. I have family duties to attend to so I log on between 20.00-21.00 CET.
I love commanding and would like to practise it without ruining the experience for others so this may be a good alternative. We could perhaps set up the a game to make it easier for both pilots and us commanders, like using same faction for instance.
The advantage of NOT using the newbie servers and run it as a side game would to get one or two +5 ranked to help out commanding the newbies (go here, nan me, follow me etc.) as Commanding a game is pretty intense in it self.
A recruiting activity like "Newbie Wednesdays" for instance might be an alternative idea (could at least be tested for a month).
New players and new comms gather for a laugh. More senior players are welcome to backseat the comms and help organising new players BUT refrain from flying other ships than scouts (i.e. limit whoring) and instead focus on coaching the newbies in figs and ints instead.
I think it would only take one or two voob or vet per team to get good enough coaching, and if no senior player attends no harm done. It might be a good recruiting ground for AFS.
I agree that it looks odd that the newbie servers are empty most of the time, like no one dares to play on them.

I'd love to hook up in such an environment. I'm usually available around 20:00 EST

Even if there's a lot of newbies on and almost no vets, they still seem to prefer to play on main than on the newbie server. It's especially noticeable on Sunday when everyone runs off to their SGs and main becomes a 10v10 composed almost entirely of newbs. I think most people prefer to just dive in and figure it out themselves on a server with fifty other people.

I am also a @help and I agree with this!Jyppa wrote:QUOTE (Jyppa @ Feb 22 2010, 09:35 PM) If the newbie server is empty, try joining the main and looking for any @Help tagged player. Ask us, and we'll be happy to get a game started on the newbie server.

Side note, my BYOND friends and I sometimes set up a game. We're always easy to notice, "SPARTANS!!!" and right now we're keeping it at nov only for the pure reason we don't want vets coming on and whoring us all. (Only Slice and myself actually comm, the rest of us fly around and goof off). You're all welcome to join in the fun!

I think your a-ok, so please just consider this a friendly piece of advice: Please don't turn this into twinks whoring the newbs.
People can and will be able to get on any setting you choose depending on the powahs given out by the bosses, and if there is whiff of this type of whoring the server owners will gladly turn over logs to BV who wields a hefty ban stick for newbie whoring. We just got the inflated newbie thing reset is all and I for one don't want to see it return any time soon.
