Bacon wrote:QUOTE (Bacon @ Dec 12 2009, 10:17 AM) Heck, we could even make a new intro video that explains the story, but shows gameplay and explains a little about the game.
Well pork scratching, if you are willing to furnish us with a nice little script for those who are trying to collect as many clips to make a new movie would help a great deal. It will make our lives easier and it will also promote the ideas that you have.
I reckon a movie that is no longer than two minutes long, that also uses some of the voice commands to help convey the idea. I just have no clue as to the storyline or where to start. But is has to be realistic! Trying to record a full scale bbr run with nans & INTs etc etc is very difficult to capture and to convey. But the story of a pack of SFS deep behind enemy lines taking out a miner or con is easily doable.
I suggest we hold a little tourney and get one of your smart witted keystrokesmiths (lol in Alleg) and we pick three of the best, then get a voice to to the nasty work of getting their voice down. I want to direct it!!! So I can make all my ACE buddies look like the hero's that they are. I just wonder what kind of dogs I can get to play the bad guy.

Bacon... Thank you.
Damn good ideas. We just don't have the draw. Drab complexity is not doing it.
And I've said it elsewhere, but the original video is not going to cut it, even if it is cleaned up.

Quake 3 never had a story or a soul... unless soul-lessness counts as a soul.
The Allegiance storyline is not just that interesting...

badp, you're wrong. Quake is EASY TO PLAY so there is no need for one.
Allegiance... I'm really trying to remember how I first came to love this game... It wasn't the story, I didn't know about it but for me I've been a massive fan of the X-wing series and grew bored of X-Wing Alliance a long time ago. I found the game by some fluke.. I really can't remember how, downloaded and since I'm a flight game fanatic as a youth I could fly in circles quite well. I quickly picked up the way it handles (for a noob) and loved the "feel" of the game.
I almost only play retro games.
So I can by complete fluke as these requirements isn't the norm. What I've read of bacons post above is great, it is like a salesman who has been trying to sell his product incorrectly.
That new front page explains a hell of a lot more than the "technical" one that is there atm. Maybe have both?
Bacon sir, I am behind you on this. Make the game look more enjoyable.
Also on a side note, is it possible for you to be able to change between hi-res and normal graphics inside the game? Might require a small amount of coding but if we combine the hi-res packs and have the option of "hi res" or "standard" ingame for people to choose from (and a skinny downloader for the hardcore who want to save 1 min of their download)
Then replace the screenshots section with the hi-res ones... I think that'll help!

Yep. This is the one that AEM did in HD:

That demo page has a few other peculiarities as well (six factions? How long since you played!?) but it communicates the point. All the ideas in this thread are good. I especially like Refill's scripted-gameplay-story movie idea... something with a similar feel to the original video with a voiceover, or maybe use a similar style as Red Vs Blue. It'd be fun to put together, even if it's not used as the intro at all

Walmart have greeters for a reason. The first time I went into a Walmart on the North American continent I was a little intimidated by the thought of all those people in spandex and the plethora of burger related products, but I need not have feared. The big W had thought of this, and provided a handy senior to pass me a gigantic shopping cart and a cheery wave from a palsied hand to the area that dealt with things unrelated to burgers.
Maybe the newbie server needs staffing with @Help or @Alleg at busy times. People tend not to stick around if they're the only one in the server. It'll be pretty dull, and pretty repetitive but it isn't all about the glory of swanning around with the tag on, getting all of the babes that wouldn't give the general public a second glance.

Except it isn't
Well, here's my idea, a proof of concept ruined a bit in the execution by my mercy for Dropbox (read: @#(!ty encoding to keep traffic to a minimum).
Take something like
Tigereye's promo for Allegiance and do away with all the $#@!ing text nobody will read anyway on the homepage.
Iteration 1 of my idea (with video)
Iteration 2 of my idea (with no text)
Iteration 3 of my idea (with less links and more twitter)
Iteration 4 of my idea (better compatibility with browsers that don't have the video tag)
