ok HERE are the screen shots i failed at posting earlier.

I don't usually build off plane but when we made these we were creating sector to sector courses for the first time so we had to.

Grinchy, what is that yellow stuff? Could we make a tunnel of roids? turn the wrong way, your dead. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

and also, the roid tunnel or course are not a bad idea. Hmm makes me think. KGJV, is it possible to control Roids in game to make tracks, boundaries, or obstacles? That would also call for a method to tell the difference betwenn them and other roids in the sector.

Well, KGJV has made the 'no randomization' aleph code implement in R5.

You can make custom models as 'asteroids' in AME, as well

sounds good to me. Seems that we now have a stronger possibility to get some helpful modifications. But i must ask this question. What is AME?

If you want to modify or make a new race core, I'd like to make some comments:

-It can be annoying to race on an unscouted map because whenever you enter an unscouted sector at high speed with a high scan range ship, the lag makes it hard to see anything for 1 or 2 seconds(at 500 mps, 2 sec is 1000m).

-My 1st fix to that was putting Scanners(bases) in every sectors. Doing that crashed the server(or sometime, just the clients) because too much informations had to be sent at the same time. So I ended up putting bases in about half the sectors. There's possibly better fixes than that, but I think it's good to know.

- The model and its hitboxes don't match perfectly, so a ship can hit a large object even if it seems far.

- A nice way to write things vertically(with asteroids or whatever) in AME is to write it on the Z plane(with X and Y values) and when you're done, you move the Y value to the Z and then the text will appear on the Y plane.

- The racecore that survived on autoupdate isn't the latest version(I don't know why), if you're interested, I could send you the latest one with a nice faction font(It's a raceflag instead of the GC one). It might have been lost when my HD died, but I could look it up. I think another ship has a unique model too(Not just the tiny one).

- I don't suggest making boundaries with probes, you would have to do it every races(or avoid them). Instead, you could just ask people to make a boundary model for you. You could ask for colored rings which sounds pretty easy to do. Even more interesting: people could make a big race tunnel.

As for the ideas: I love the one about making 1 ship/ race and customizing it. I still think several ship have their place, but these should be for different type of races. Let pilots customize their ships.

-Combat + race: I never really liked idea, but many people seemed to want it so I gave it some though(But I never added it).
So suggestions if weapons:

- Make 2 factions, 1 with guns and 1 without. It'll make sure there's no idiot messing up a gunless race when people don't want guns. a price tag could work too, but I think that 2 factions is simplier.

- I haven't toyed with it for years, but IIRC, it's possible: put a base in every sector for every teams, but not close to the "race track". Make sure the transfer tag of the base isn't checked and that the restart one is checked. The result is that anyone who dies in the sector will restart in the same sector, but no one will be able to cheat and switch to a forward station after being podded. You may want to give these base no scan range to avoid spotting all the asteroids and crashing the server.

http://www.mesialonline.com/madpeople/race core 2.zip

is something i started a long time ago and never completed.

it has some arrow models you can use to point in the direction of the next aleph, some weapons have been added i think (though only as treasures).

there also appears to be a model for a booster platform, but it has not been exported to mdl. (you set the base exit speed to be really high, then when you dock at this base and then launch you get accelerated very quickly)

if you search the forums you might find some of my old posts on it.
http://www.freeallegiance.org/forums/index...showtopic=26354 (the links in the post have the interesting stuff in)

i wonder if the artefacts or ctf mode could be used in conjunction with the race core?

you could set it so you need 1 flag capture to win

have a map
team 1 - o - o - o - o - o - o - o - o - o - o - team 2

an "o" is a sector an "-" is a aleph

first person to get to the other end (and take the flag) and back wins.

though you really need people to be going in the same direction for it to be fun

if you can set where the flags are in AME you could have the flags at one end and the teams at the other

p.s. hi vly

Practice laps should solve this problem.

I think you might have made too many sectors as well, I'm going to try enlarging them to reduce the overall number.

Hopefully I pick a good model.

Easier to just write stuff on alephs, plus less overhead.

I cant get racecore to work on the lan anyway.

I'm sure someone will be making donut bases or something.

Yeah, if Apoch ever gets online /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

I thought about weapons, but I think that only ramming should be allowed.

madp can do the guns one.

I think a customized cube probe base so its very simple and doesn't take up much computing power would be the best way to go.
