Just happened to be on my mind at posting time, there are plenty of others that I could name... currently most excited about D3 though /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Video Card Issues with ATI
I get around 1400FPS with my 2900XT. You should get around 3000-4000 with a 4850.fishbone wrote:QUOTE (fishbone @ Jul 2 2008, 03:48 AM) What kind of fps does the 4850 give you on Allegiance (I'm guessing is should be plenty...and I know if fps> refresh rate yadda yadda). The 4850 is the card i'm not rich like TB and can't afford two 4870s

Good grief, you're going to need to have your eyelids removed if you're going to get maximum value for money.

Interesting, let me know how it goes please Lyk, that's the card I was just about to order.
My system is a 3.06 GHz P4 with 1.5GB RAM that I think is probably capable of running newer games, but is held back by the FX5600 Ultra.
Nak has recommended this: http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quick...NavigationKey=0
Which looks good to me. My AGP slot is 4x though, would this card be backwards compatible? I don't think the performance difference between 4x & 8x AGP is huge from what I have read, so long as it will actually function in a 4x slot.
Am I wasting my money? Or am I going to see a real performance boost by installing this card? is what I am asking I suppose.

I saw a real performance boost on newer games with mine, on a slightly less drastic upgrade. I don't know about the AGP stuff, though, my slot is PCI-E.
Also I don't know exactly which currency that is, but I got mine for $100 USD, so if those are English pounds that's a huge rip-off.
I'll let you know if I figure out the minor problem with Alleg tomorrow.

If you shopped around you would get it PCI-E for not too much more than that here, otherwise I'd just buy it off of ebay or Amazon.fr or something, the EU has pretty much given us price parity with mainland europe, FWTW. I can hop on a ferry as a foot passenger for three quid and be in Calais, Ostend or Bolougne in a couple of hours. It's the legacy AGP slot that is killing me, people don't stock decent AGP cards, as there is next to zero demand for them here (I'm told), except from me of course.
