I think we need more ppl since this community is quite small and if there is a influx of new ppl it could benifit the continuing of alleg (eventhough it survied for 8years and there is some increase in ppl playing) and new blood could give a boost in the community. I don't think I can do it by myself because it does cost money and the far I can do is tell ppl and vote for alleg in any voting pages that has it. I'm not making progress (about 5ppl) but I think you guys can do better. Much better.
I've advertised on my FreeWebs.com page since the days when my profile's avatar was pichu-powered.

Really, community size is not an issue at this point. At all. We're growing, we've been growing for years, and a sudden influx of newbies will not improve the game for anyone, including those newbies. I'm not even sure advertising is a good idea right now.

Actually, alleg IS on some of those game directories... In fact, I was bored with the browser game I used to play (anyone ever played Cantr II?) and I was looking for a new, 100% free game that dosn't require me to commit my life to it when I saw this game that looked interesting, when I accedently pressed the link to Allegiance... I read the front page of the website, thought it looked cool, downloaded it and started playing... That was the best mistake I've made in my life.

You've obviously come to the wrong place, then. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

No compared to Cantr this is easy... Cantr if you stop playing for a few days all your characters die from starvation, or someone kills you, or a lion comes out of the jungle and kills you, or a bunch of pirates come and kill you... All of these have happened to me on Cantr and I'm not even kidding... Its a great RPG but it requires you to log on alot. If you have that kind of time though you should check it out.

This is the main problem: you can advertise all you want, but most players who show up are going to be looking for some action, i.e. dogfighting, and alleg is not about dogfighting. Unlike Halo and whatever popular games there are out there, allegiance is not about twitch gaming. It is not about micro-controlling your units. It is about situational awareness and teamwork. You can't really advertise it as being easy to play or even as a genre people already know about. Face it, when that aleph is camped, it's a waiting game, not a kill-on-sight game.

The best way to advertise might be through "squad" or "faction" banners that call for pilots who can work well on a team. But for this game, word-of-mouth and the little attention we get on game review sites is probably enough. Allegiance has been growing at a good rate, and that trend should continue. Huge games are fun, but only when they are well-organized and when there are enough players who know what they are doing. If vets are outnumbered 2:1 in each game, pickup games would begin to suck very badly, mostly because newbies look at newbies and not at vets, because there are not enough vets to look at. An acceptable vet:newb ratio might be 4:1. This keeps pickup games more or less organized and newbies with a better sense of what they should be doing.

I'm glad to hear that Lyko, but how can one tell? For the time I've been back game sizes have seemed to remain constant, and judging from the leaderboard the number of active players is staying pretty much constant. What am I missing?

You're missing a sense of perspective.

How many people were logged into the Allegiance Anniversary game last week?
How many people were logged into the Allegiance Anniversary game 2-3 years ago?

I'm just saying that it has seemed to remain constant for the half a year I've been back. That's not constantly growing in the world of computer games for me, that's holding steady.
