This is by far the worst post I've ever seen!
You can NOT mention "State of the Allegiance Community" without SOMEWHERE mentioning sammiches!
State of the Community
I remember logging in over a crappy dial up connection years ago only to stare at an empty game lobby for hours.
I'd turn the speakers WAY UP and then go off to do other things until I heard the "10, 9, 8, ...". then I'd run up and join. That is of course if I had not "dplay'd" out by then.

2. If it's in my mouth, it's mine.
[unless it tastes bad, then it is yours.]
I remember when lobby was down for days and even weeks at a time, with people desperately trying to contact someone in MS to start to lobby server again. That was pure agony...

I'm sorry I wasn't here doing my part back in the bad 'ol days. I love where we are now, and I hope we can grow the player bace much more still (so one can log on any time of day and find at least a decent small game).
Allegiance is doing great. Soon we can toast the start of the next eight years! Thank you everybody, Great Gaia did I miss Allegiance! /wub.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":iluv:" border="0" alt="wub.gif" />

You are talking about SOVRoute, not SOVLogin... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />Technical Wonder wrote:QUOTE (Technical Wonder @ Mar 28 2008, 08:15 PM) There were times when we relied purely on passing IPs around for SOVLogin to connect to hehe.

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

Oh, I remember those days, writing e-mails to the staff: "Your lobby is down".Snack wrote:QUOTE (Snack @ Mar 28 2008, 08:03 PM) I remember when lobby was down for days and even weeks at a time, with people desperately trying to contact someone in MS to start to lobby server again. Reply: "Check your connection"
Me: "I frikken know your lobby server, it is down"
Reply: "Check your connection"
Me: "I know my connection, I know your server, your server is down"
Reply: "We rebooted it, does it work?"
Me: "Yes, as I said in the beginning, I know your lobby server"
This took place again and again. You had to verbally abuse them to get them to reboot the damn lobby. Of course it usually crashed on friday, leaving us without alleg for the weekend. SOVRoute was a blessing.
God I forgot about that. We've come a long way.Technical Wonder wrote:QUOTE (Technical Wonder @ Mar 28 2008, 02:15 PM) There were times when we relied purely on passing IPs around for SOVLogin to connect to hehe.
