Yeah, especially since he seems to be very very concerned about stirring @#(! up and nobody's even flamed him yet.

YET, I say!

Myself, I find the lack of competent commanders much more alarming than the lack of core balance. There are two sorts of other cores: wildly strange other cores and "I don't like DN" other cores. The "I don't like DN" other cores suck, in general, and the wildly strange ones aren't intended for 2 team conquest. I have the most fun on DN.

Does TF with FF on work for you?

I am happy whenever I have the opportunity to bomb my own bases when things are going poorly.

I guess you are also referring to GoDII, as it is not really strange... You are wrong, GoDII is not a "I don't like DN" core, it is a: "fix the obvious problems, Noir" core. If you follow the links pkk provided you will find some more details on that.

[opinion]

Cores = The core developer's girlfriend

Mess with his core decisions and you are messing with his "girlfriend" would be the easist way to explain it. Core discussions are like family secrets, hidden in the closet and whispered about every so often.

Lykourgos hit upon a good point. There is a great piece on the Academy written by Tkela, one of the original Devs. Read that to get a background on some of the issues involved.

Now throw in some squads have certain cores they favor over others. (Note that is all squads)

I recently did a somewhat unscientific survey in the Officers Club Forum (This is where squad matches are arranged)
We had found for a pretty decent period that a very large percentage of squad games were being played on either GoD or PCII. The answers to my questions were "less cheese" which opens up a whole new look at some of the current and under development cores.

Bottom line? Variety is nice and fun. Because the same tactics refined played over and over get boring. (Hmmm, heavy ints anyone???) But there is a limit too.

But I personally believe that we will see a reduction in cheese in the cores. Why? Everything goes in a cycle and I think we are seeing that the "REGULAR" players are growing tired of the "over the top" material. NOTE: I defined regular players as people who, 1. Are not newbies learning the game, 2. Do not play the fantasy core/cap ships wars on an exclusive basis.

But you will open up a flame fest on cores simply because any and all players have their own opinion on what a core and balance should be. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

I remeber Noir saying a while ago that he had mostly balanced everything as of DN450, with the percentages on this page being almost equal.

Faction Stats

And, others saying that the faction stats were not a good enough indicator of the balance in a core. After DN460, those numbers seem to have skewed a bit, with Phoenix not getting any play at all, and TF well below other factions in the win %.

Other cores seem to be vastly under-used.

The community was opposed to shutting down DN for certain days to encourage other cores.

It would be nice to have so many players that the DN based games would be full up, so that other games would have to start, and have many games going with lots of happy people playing.

Recruit more people is my opinon! /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

Is TF and Nix played that often?
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.

It seemed like Nix got a lot of play in 450, now I hardly ever see it used in US primetime in the main game. That's just my impression from 9pm-12pm CDT, so not a very big sample.

TheVoid37 wrote:QUOTE (TheVoid37 @ Oct 23 2007, 07:26 PM) I typically play the older factions, that is what I lived, ate and breathed in the years before I came back and I like the traditional feel.
I guess this is very close to how I feel. Allegiance has a special place in my heart, all the more because I couldn't participate for all those long years. Then I get upset when I play in a game with TF and it all just feels wrong and isn't fun to me. Honestly, I did give it a fair chanse, and really tried to like it (and Phoenix), but I just cant.
TheVoid37 wrote:QUOTE (TheVoid37 @ Oct 23 2007, 07:26 PM) As for the boys locker room thing . . . well that's alot of online games unfortunately. Percentage wise too I think you will find the women folk dish it out quite a bit as well. Equality!!

Just filter alot of it out in your mind and kinda laugh at the kiddies when they throw their fits.
I know you are right. It just gets so old... and results in the fact that our gamer ladies never let on their gender. There are a lot more of them out there (and here!) than many realise, but because of the retarded reactions of some of the boys they quite understandably decide stay anonymous.

That has the unfortunate result that our silly "boy's club" crowd doesn't understand that girl gamers are quite normal people, and get to keep their prejudices.

Allegience is actually quite a brainy game. I'd hope that would translate to it also drawing a fairly civilized crowd of gamers. Most of you are lovely, smart people. It doesn't take a lot of sexist macho chatter to dumb down the mood, unfortunately. A few people keeping it up is quite enough for that.

Don't worry. My head won't explode and I won't leave in tears. I just have so much respect to the community that has kept Allegience alive and improved it, that I notice such things parhaps more than normal.
