Strange behaviour - maybe someone can explain it to me.
It is concerning ASGS.
Watching Task Manager, as I start ASGS it consumes 18,768kb of memory.
When I log in and it attempts to start Allegiance it goes up to 26,448kb.
And now, just sitting idle and logged off, it will periodically increase its mem usage.
It is now up to 26,844kb. It has increased its memory usage by nearly 400kb just sitting idle for 5 or 6 minutes.
In fact, it seems that whenever it gets focus it takes another 8kb or so of ram.
It is now up to 26,872.
26,880
26,892
26,896
26,904
26,912

Edit:
42 minutes later, it is at 27,224kb

Is this normal?

Well im not a true help tech person (like Immz) but all I can suggest is to do a re-install of Allegiance because it looks like your comp and firewall settings are fine, it could have just been a dodgy install. Also are you running it in full screen or windowed mode?

P.S. The K in the Task Manager Proccess means kernerls not kilobytes

I have re-installed.

In 'Mem Usage' and 'VM Size', the k means kilobytes.

I am running in fullscreen.

I find it really amazing.

No one seems to want to help me with this problem.

Is it because it is a 'no-cost' game?
Or, because the vets do not want new players?

I would really like to get the game up and running.
But, so far, no one has had any sollutions to my problem.

Am I rude, lude, and socially unacceptable? What???!!!

The game will not run from within ASGS.

WHY????!!!!!

Please... Give me some usefull hints and suggestions!

perhaps a little impatient? everyone in the helpline does it in their free time, no one is paid to do it, they all have jobs and familys and lives and they simply aren't on 24-7

this probably won't work but...

i'm assuming you've installed allegiance into the default location C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance (if you haven't, then you probabbly can figure out the correct paths for the rest of this)

first go to your allegiance directory ( C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance ) and confirm Alegiance.exe, ASGSClient.exe and ASGSUpdate.exe are there.

try double clicking on ASGSClient.exe (with the normal settings of auto launch allegiance, not in beta mode etc) and try logging in with your asgs callsign (this is different to your forum username and you need to register it separately)

if asgs successfully launches allegiance, then once you've exited allegiance and asgs, check your desktop icon that launches asgs and make sure the box labelled "start in" has "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance" in it

p.s. what security software are you using (i've got zoneallarm pro and it gives me options when applications are first used to block various activity's they try and perform, usually the thing they are trying to do is something i want them to do, but it still gives me the option to stop them doing it. though i had to tell it i wanted it to ask me instead of letting it decide for its self - your security software may be set to decide for its self and is blocking asgs from launching allegiance)

I did a short experiment:
I changed the "exe Path" var in my registry from "D:\Allegiance" to D:\Allegiance1".

The result was the same: ASGS did launch, but was unable to start Allegiance.

Assumption:
Moosetek13 did install Allegiance correcty and after the installation he moved the Allegiance folder. ASGS is looking at the wrong position to launch Allegiance.

Solution:
Fix the registry settings or move the Allegiance folder back to the original install path.
The Escapist (Justin Emerson) @ Dec 21 2010, 02:33 PM:
The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

Yelling and bitching rarely help. Our main helpline guys (ImmZ and Grimmwolf) are currently preocupied with RL. Give it a few days.
While waiting i suggest searhing Knoweledge Base and this forum for similar problems. You just might find solution. Just put some effort in it.

Sorry, no. I did not move any file/folder locations and the registry entries are correct.

I tried starting ASGS from File Manager, the result was the same.

And yes, I have searched the KB and forum for similar problems. In fact, I did that before I ever posted.

If I am too impatient, I'll try not to be. But, it has been a week since I first posted.
