Yep, i drifted pretty near, not knowing that cons moving is influenced. I did react at yelling but it was late... or you were very fast /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ...nevermind...

I know better bout that fact and can make others bootable mistake /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

So NOT moving at this distance does NOT disturb the con's movement?

i think it anticipates a colission.

just stay away from them, you can still nan then without disturbing them, but if they aren't lining up, then you need to move away.
once you know how far you can get, don't get closer.. ever.

There aren't that many more that you can make as a new player. You are forgiven for doing most silly stuff. Being too close to a con when it is trying to build can be very obstructive, especially if the situation is critical. I'm glad you're not taking offense, because none was intended.

Basically, the con tries to find a clear angle of approach to the centre of the rock. Then it tries to align itself to that angle. Then it moves along that angle towards the centre of the rock, until it hits the outer boundary of the rock, upon which the 'building bubble' appears.

The con moves away from you to avoid collision with you. If you are holding position, it won't need to move away from you again after it has found a clear angle. If you move around, it will continuously pick an angle, try to line up, avoid you, pick an angle again, try to line up again and avoid you again, etc...

It is not necessary to stay out of nan-range, as long as you don't get anywhere near the path between the con and the rock. 200-300 m behind or next to the con is fine.

tip: if you are facing the con, throttle down to 0% to avoid your forward thrusters flying you into it. Use your strafe buttons to move around and keep your distance instead.
tip2: if there are enemies approaching to attack the con, try to make a 'shield' of prox mines around it, by dropping proxies between the enemies and the con. Focus on that, and you will rarely find yourself in the con's way. With some luck, they will pod themselves as they try to ram it. (note that mines, once deployed, take 5 seconds to arm. Drop them as the incoming enemies are about 1000 m away.)

actually, once its decided upon a position, it doesn't find a different one, i think the position may be fixed, because if two teams cons go ot a rock, they fight over the same spot. so if you are stationary on that point, the con will never build, until you move. and probably being stationary in front of the line it takes will probably make it stop.

Are you sure about this? If the cons are coming approaching the rock from completely opposite sides I doubt they will be fighting for the same spot.

Both cons will attempt to build on the rock coming from whichever angle is the most direct route from the aleph the con entered the sector from (or tele it ripped in from, or most recent waypoint it was sent from). A con (just like a miner) won't drive around the rock to a particular spot or fixed location to attempt to build from. It will use the most direct route always. Both cons will continue the alignment sequence until one of them begins to actually go into the rock creating a build sphere. At that point the con that lost the race will request a new rock to build on. It would be HIGHLY unusual for two cons to be fighting over the same spot to build at.

nope, i've seen it plenty of times, go to a seperate server with someone, both send your cons to the same rock and make them arrive at a similar time

This is definitely wrong -- having chased many cons down while flying sideways, they almost never dive straight in -- usually they approach one side and then turn to plant, and occasionally they will go around to the far side, and they most definitely will both fight for the same spot on the rock to plant.

I don't recall this behaviour about cons in cadet -- if it is not there, it should be.
