I have a lot to learn, but in the interim I've learned how to set up the server (v.1? - the one on the CD) and a player on one system in my home LAN and a second player on a second system. With that minimum, I can practice my command skills offline/site.

I found my old, store bought, Allegiance box the other day. Read the manual and thought, "I bet this was fun back when it was suported, wish I had a chance to play it before Micro$oft took it down." Then I got to wondering if anyone else remembered it. Two Google and a Wikipidia hit later, here I am.

I got in my first game last night, and just to confirm something i read on here, the manual in the box sucks! It's like reading a tea bag wraper to learn the history of the West India Trading Company. I have no idea how the first generation learned how to play.

The Academy was a very helpfull read. One day I might be able to apply that knowlage

I too search for this. "space MMO" was what I used. At first I found Space Cowboy. It looked interesting but had problems dl'ing the 1+ gb game and they offered no torrent so I kept looking. So here I am. Once I found you multiplay as a turret gunner, I was hooked.
