Here's an idea for in game chat...
players can type @squad where 'squad' is the @GB @RT tag... this will communicate with all players with that tag.
"@GB Hi guys, just got back from Maui, awesome place, naked girls and all the beer I can drink."
That would communicate the message to all GB in the game, and prolly would get my arse kicked for having that much fun without my squadies. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
You may want to limit it to just the players on the one team in the game, and have @gb@ for instance communicate with all those on the server.
Squad Chat
Tell all your GB buddies to go to Alpha wing /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
Or, if they're all in the same sector, select them all by dragging a selection box around them in F3, then hit ENTER and type a message to them all.

Seriously though, I like the idea. I think it would be pretty cool to be able to talk to just a squad... would it be very hard to code?

Well my main thought is this, aside from chatting with squadies... you can also use it to help coordinate pickup games a bit. For instance, sometimes I'll say @SF I need miner D or @XT go whore them into submission or @RT probe our home and tac alephs and every rock for enemy htts. It can be handy (note, random examples hehe). /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

n.b. I may not see a forum post replied to me or a pm sent to me for weeks and weeks...
Whilst I like the idea I would worry that it maight be abused from time to time. Also, as far as chatting to socialise is concerned, I agree with Pook (I believe it was) that Alleg is not a social club, you want a squad chatroom there's plenty of alternatives.
It would be nice from a squad coordination in PU games Pov though.
On balance I like it /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Actually using it as a tool for training during pick up games is good, it also reduces the chat clutter.
And occasionally you could use @alleg@ to contact an alleg easier, 911 is so much easier to use then screaming out your house window. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

That'd be about as big an abuse of the system as possible. Cadets are newbies, enrolled in a program that is supposed to teach them how to play in a supportive and helpful environment. Singling out the people who are showing the initiative to learn how to play and contribute to the team and calling them fools while not really teaching them anything at all is pretty much the definition of anti-newb behavior, and considering that it wasn't that long ago that you were a Cadet, I'd expected better from you.CronoDroid wrote:QUOTE (CronoDroid @ Jul 31 2006, 01:07 AM) Multiple applications as well, @CDT "Probe up fools!"
