The May dashboard update adds MPEG-4 and H.264 streaming BTW. No more converting your DivX/Xvid and HD-rips to WMV to watch it on TV.

I saw a review which pitted the PS3 against the other 3 $1000 blueray players and it won the review. It is a very capable hd player but it is loud and it uses too much energy. I doubt we'll see $99 HD players in the next year $199 is more likely i think.

AFAIK we arent trying to shunt the whole community onto consoles.
