Hi
I had fun and games getting my router sorted before Christmas, which I finally managed. I was away for 2 weeks over Christmas/New Year so like the environmentally-aware person I am, I turned it off. When I came back and turned it on again, it no longer worked. I can ping the router, the router can ping the internet, but I can't ping the internet. Settings all look as they should do. Any ideas without me giving more information?

I'm happy to give more info, it's just I was going out earlier and I only have one hand to type with atm, so brevity FTW...
D-Link DSL-504T router (wired, not wireless)
I'm running Windows 2000 and my wife's PC is on Linux (a different problem altogether, concentrate on mine first...)
It does have a firewall installed, I had to manually open ports to get alleg to work, though that was before the latest release.
Hard reset... well it's a possibility but considering the troublr I had getting it to work in the first place... I'd rather try something else first.

Umm... your problem seems weird. Does the modem have a built in firewall of any sort? If yes, try disabling it. Also, : http://www.swiftinter.net/faqsarticle.php?newsID=193. Step 4, section 2 seems to detail your condition. But the solutions are pretty much "Call the ISP." Also, are you sure about that the gateway IP in your network adapter's TCP/IP properties is set to the modem's IP?

Two thoughts ...
1) Your computer doesn't have the router listed at the gateway.
start -> run -> cmd -> 'ipconfig' ... does the gateway address match the router?
2) Does your router have a place for 'routes'?
I have only had to do this to switches and Unix servers with mulitple network cards ... but do you have a 'route' from your internal network to the internet?
If #2 doesn't make sense I wouldn't worry ... I lean toward the problem being #1...

1) I found the "disable firewall" button. Didn't work.
2) Calling ISP won't help as they don't provide support for this kind of thing. They do however have a "how to set up this sort of router" page on their website, which I followed back when I originally set it up.
3) Yes the router does have a place for "routes" - there's a static routing menu and a dynamic routing one. Nothing is set up under these at the moment.
Just to re-iterate... router says DSL connection is fine, it can ping the internet and ping my PC. My PC has the router set up as the default gateway and can ping the router, but not the internet.

Coincidentally, I just spent literally 8 hours on tech support calls between my isp and linksys (new router won't work -so back to old router).
Anyway -- on your TCP/IP config properties -- are the 'obtain IP adresses automatically' and the 'dns auto." selectiosn checked?
