In the next update could the standard speed for all ships and pods be increased by 10-20%..
I really think this would help the game in its beginning stages. I also think it would help to increase the action in the game. If it was done to all ships and pods it would not effect the balance toward any faction or type of ship..
Speed suggestion

This actually does change faction and ship balance somewhat, even when applied to all factions, as some aspects of play are not ship-speed limited but limited by some other factor. Further, it alters offensive/defensive balance considerably. As a final note, this isn't a code change, it's a core change, and belongs in the core development forum, not here.Nocturn wrote:QUOTE (Nocturn @ Feb 15 2007, 06:35 PM) In the next update could the standard speed for all ships and pods be increased by 10-20%..

Easiest implementation would be to multiply the ship speed coefficient in each faction's profile by 1.1 or 1.2, which would hit every ship, including drones and pods.Papsmear wrote:QUOTE (Papsmear @ Feb 16 2007, 08:39 AM) I would think if all shipsand pods were given a speed boost the same should be done for all miners and constructors.

Nocturn we don't mean to be too hard on you, but as Ang already pointed out, an across the board speed boost impacts a LOT of things.
If miners are quicker, to avoid quicker fighters, the econ is speed up, this impacts factions with slower dev times
If bombers are faster (especially stealth bombers) they can arm missiles earlier and be in range to launch faster, faster than a boost in the defenders ships would compensate for.
Prox mines become more powerful (in some situations) and less in others (due to activation time)
Teleprobe activation times would need to be changed (as defenders can get to them faster)
Faster HTT's are a problem, disproportionate advantage over defenders, even if both get same speed % increase
Consequences of overshooting the opponent are increased
The problem of lag is increased (bigger problem for faster ships)
This is just to name a few, I am sure there are dozens more.

Thanks for all the responses..
The reason I was saying just 10-20% is it would only add 3-6mps on pods. While that isnt much it would be a little faster ride home. In most other craft it would on lt be 13 - 26mps faster on the straight line flying. So the biggest effect would be in flying from one sector to another before any ricord could be set up. Once there if you are in a battle you need to be manuvering which slows you down..
Course you are right. I didnt take into consideration that this would change the tactics. It would make the game faster which would be a advantage to those commanders who develop certain tech lines. While making it harder to develop some of the tech that requires a long time.
Im just not a big fan of the bobber ride.. LOL I guess as some people have said it is a chance to grab a drink or use the restroom. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

You can also get pickups (and provide them to others). Or fly Bios and get ripcording pods.
