Can we have a weird-character-based-code filter to this site. I can hardly understand what people are trying to say.

It really wasn't that hard to figure out what those expletives were, now, were they? I mean, you're not going to stop in the heat of battle and look up on your 1-to-1 letter substitution chart to figure out... "Oh... that expletive really was the 'F' word after all!"Jonan wrote:QUOTE (Jonan @ Feb 7 2007, 10:11 AM) Can we have a weird-character-based-code filter to this site. Or are you just stupid?

I just thought I'd add my own thoughts to the subjects that you brought up, being a noob as well /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Sorry if I repeat anything thats already been said /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

1) I agree, awesome game that really plays to my love of space sims and RTS. If there were more RPG aspects I don't think I would ever sleep or study, so thats a good thing /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />
2) I havent found it to be elitist at all to be honest. I may have been lucky, but whenever I have asked a question on the forum or in the chat during game, I've always got a reply and I haven't been flamed for being a noob (yet). In game itself, I've found that people are more willing to have you on the team and interact with you if you ask what needs to be done, as well as being willing to do the mundane jobs.
3) This happens in all online games to be honest. It might be frustrating, but I've just come from playing battlefield 2 as a senior member of a clan; I had to be involved in organising training and doing some matches, that can take up to a week to organise alone, 20 minutes really isnt that much if you know it's the maximum you are going to wait. What I've found with alleigance is that I join a team, go off to make myself a coffee and have a cigarette, when I get back the game is ready to go /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />
4) Being kicked from turrets is annoying, but you can't really get angry at it. Some people are willing to try and have a bombing run work with a newbie on board, but you have to be understanding when they're not willing to put the team at risk by having someone bugger it up; 3 people podded on a team of 10 for example would not be good. You might not do anything wrong, but you can't blame them for their concerns.
5) I found the website very informative actually. I can't really add anything else - I read through the website once, jumped on an did the training missions, and then went back to read some of it again after my first few games. You can't really be expected to understand or learn anything without any hands-on experience.
6) I haven't played on a newbie server, and personally I wouldn't like to. I'd much rather have my ass handed to me on a plate by an expert than a fellow newbie for 2 reasons: 1) It likely the other newbie was lucky if they are as new as you and 2) you can learn a lot more from experienced players' fighting (dirty or not /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> )
7) Never been restricted from a server to date.
8) Don't think it will go down the drain - I've seen games with 100 people in them. I think you might be mistaking a smaller community for an inactive one.
9) Once again, its how all things are. Its always hard learning a new set of tactics and general strat's for a game, but once you get those steep steps of the basics out of the way, everything else is just building up on that foundation. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
10) I think this is down to the more experienced players knowing what they need to do and the commanders knowing what techs to get.
11) I think this ties in with number 9. Most shorthand things are based on common sense; I'm sure as we learn more about the game and the strategies that it we will become more fluent with it /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />
12) I've found a lot of players are willing to help as well /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
13) I personally wouldn't like being assigned a wingman. I'd rather try to follow the commanders orders to the best of my ability and learn from that. Its always better to learn from being involved in something rather than being told what to do by someone else who might not have enough patience with you. But thats just my opinion and am probably wrong /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Another newb added to the good list: Sanch
Also, Sanch the reason you prolly get a different take on all these things than the original noob is because of the way you are coming at it. You realize you may have to do the mundane things and that you're going to be pwned for a while- those two things are prolly half the battle.

They often hold boob fighting competitions and battle for the coveted Golden Bra of Nippal.
Well, my personal advice to him would be that if you're not having fun, then step back from the pc a bit. I got my ass handed to me on a plate earlier, it wasn't fun, but nothing to bitch about /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> And I will get Wizard back one day, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but one day *points finger in what he hopes is an intimidating way, rather than just idiotic*
