veterans is a completely unrelated problem to military funding, and the budget size is on a different scale altogether... it's like arguing to cancel the defense budget because, i dunno, Detroid doesn't have enough traffic lights.
you don't need a space force you say? do me a favour and go look up the consequences of having all your GPS and SATCOM satellites blown up. hint: international financial system.
Green New Deal
I'm not convinced having marines in a space station is going to solve that problem though. I feel as though the most effective way to take out satellites is to do high-altitude nuclear blasts... in which case your marines-on-a-space-station are going to soon be cooked-marines-on-a-space-station.

Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain.

it's not about marines in space.
so far the only change has been to create a space command. something that has been badly needed already, and definitely something that will help defend those crucial space assets already in place.
it's pretty useless discussing the details when 99% of it is classified though.

The problem with space war is that damaging satellites makes a huge mess (debris) in space, making it even more difficult putting new sats in orbit. The debris might fly around randomly damaging other stuff. If a country has the means to fire rockets at sats, likely they operate sats themselves. It seems more likely to cheaply troll the sats by hacking them, or ransomware for profit. Google Brazil MilSat pirates 255 Mhz for more lolz.

there's a huge spectrum of ways to destroy or disable satellites that doesn't involve creating space debris (other than the dead satellite itself). space powers have been considering this problem for a while.
also the debris issue won't stop some countries from carrying out the attack, especially since Western powers are seen to be much more dependent on space military force multipliers than others.
