As Secretary of State she approved arms deals with Saudi Arabia worth billions of dollars.
So? Blaming her alone for that is like claiming Bush caused 9/11.

False.

God forbid our President actually engage in diplomacy, right?
QUOTE It's all about the oil and the money.
Hillary Clinton would support green energy bills that reduce US dependence on foreign oil.
QUOTE What exactly do you think she would be doing differnetly right now as the President?
In no particular order:
1) Not have signed an explicitly religiously-discriminatory executive order arbitrarily blocking travel from random nations.
2) Not have whipped the white nationalist portions of this country into a frenzy to where they start mailing bombs to politicians.
3) Not undermined US political influence with close US allies.
4) Not overwhelm the US media with reports of a new arrest from her campaign staff every couple of months.
5) Not illegally install a "good 'ol boy" as Attorney General of the United States.
6) Not start a trade war with China that destroys the lives of midwest farmers.
7) Not sign into law a tax bill that doubles the deficit.
8) Not appoint a justice who, at a confirmation hearing, froths at the mouth ranting about the "other side" politically.
9) Not appoint judges cherry picked by organizations that don't believe women deserve basic bodily autonomy.
10) Not direct the US DoJ to back off of legal protections for trans students under Titles IX and VII of the Civil Rights Act.
11) At the gutting of the Voting Rights Act, immediately brought forward legislation to re-strengthen the Voting Rights Act.
12) Not sent US troops to the border to stir up false panic about "migrant caravans."
13) Provided adequate and timely assistance to Puerto Rico in the wake of the devastation of the local hurricane.
14) Authorized FEMA funds to assist California in some of its battles against the ongoing crisis of global climate change.
There are many more things Hillary Clinton would have done differently than Donald J. Trump. To suggest otherwise tells me that you don't care about what Clinton would have done, you just can't stand the idea of a woman being in a position of power. And pretending for even a second that "well Clinton might not have gone after Saudi Arabia very hard" is even the inkling of the beginning of a reasonable argument for President Trump over President Clinton presumes that I am just some random words box. So yeah, $#@! you. Turns out, unlike you, I actually pay attention to what happens in the world, so unlike you, I don't just spout of whatever bull@#(! comes to mind to justify some weird misogynistic narrative.
Cashto: I have a new answer to your question. It happened because the white men of the US trip the $#@! over themselves to quickly point out that any minority who exceeds them in any way whatsoever must've gotten to where they are by "cheating."

Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain.

Let's not psychoanalyze Paps here. He's asking specifically what Clinton would do differently about Saudi Arabia, not whether Clinton is identical to Trump in all possible regards. I see no reason not to presume good faith.phoenix1 wrote:QUOTE (phoenix1 @ Nov 20 2018, 04:35 PM) There are many more things Hillary Clinton would have done differently than Donald J. Trump. Paps, to answer your question, I think Clinton would have handled the Kashoggi affair in a much different manner than Trump. It's true that the US has had a very problematic relationship with Saudi Arabia, going back decades, and I don't blame her for not being able to unwind a mess that has been long in the making during her tenure as Secretary of State, especially when there were more pressing concerns.
I think she would have properly recognized this incident as a sea change in our relationship with the KSA, and would have seized it as a long overdue opportunity to re-evaluate why we play favorites the way we do in the Middle East when Saudi Arabia is every bit as despicable as Iran when it comes to both terrorism as well as human rights. We have offered Saudi Arabia nothing but carrots for decades, and Iran nothing but sticks until recently. At a certain point, that becomes ineffective.
I think she would have recognized, far more readily than Mr. Art of the Deal, that Saudi needs us far more than we need them -- that we have enormous leverage over them, if only we had the backbone to use it.
At a bare minimum, she would not feign ignorance whether MBS was involved. She would have condemned directly. She may have even called for him to step aside for his egregious acts. There would definitely be an end to the "chumminess" that has characterized our relationship. How that may affect our relationship with the country is more uncertain. It's possible she would not have cut off all arms sales, but there would at least be a moratorium followed by a reduction. She would have also probably applied sanctions to MBS and his co-conspirators.

Perhaps I should have been more specific with the question I asked.
Thanks for understanding what I meant cashto and for your answer to the question.
I was looking for alternative ideas to address what Trump said and your answer was rather insightful.
There is a miriate of ways to handle a diplomatic situation or make a diplomatic statement.
Trump made his statement, every other politicain would have handled the situation differently.
I wonder what Bernie would have said if he had beaten out Clinton or what would Pence have said if he had won the Presidency?
Just some food for thought.

Trump, July 2017, Mahoning valley, Ohio:
QUOTE I said, those jobs have left Ohio. They’re all coming back. They’re all coming back. Don’t move, don’t sell your house ... we’re going to fill up those factories or rip them down and build new ones!
November 2018, Mahoning valley, Ohio:
QUOTE General Motors will close three assembly plants by the end of 2019, it said Monday, including Lordstown in Ohio, Detroit-Hamtramck and Oshawa in Ontario.
About 5,600 jobs are at stake: roughly 1,600 in Lordstown; 1,500 in Hamtramck; and about 2,500 in Oshawa.
[...]
Earlier this year, GM announced plans to build the new Chevy Blazer in Mexico on the same day the company ended the second shift at a plant. GM received record tax breaks as a result of the GOP’s tax bill last year and has eliminated jobs instead of using that tax windfall to invest in American workers, Brown said.
[...]
GM has eliminated nearly 3,000 jobs at the plant over the last two years.
After the GOP tax overhaul, GM is able to bring their $6.9 billion in overseas cash back to the U.S. at less than half of the tax rate the corporation would formerly have paid, and immediately deduct the cost of any new investments in plant and equipment, Brown said. Despite these tax cuts and the company’s record revenues as reported in their 2016 SEC filing, GM is still moving forward with the Lordstown layoffs.
All of this comes as a surprise only if you're a Republican. The rest of us knew they were fake, empty promises from day one because we knew what kind of man Trump was when he gave them.

I think GM is just looking to the future. Which is electric cars, self driving cars, ride sharing networks. Building cars that nobody buys, just to keep a plant open doesn't make alot of sense. I guess you could blame trump for innovation and leaving the past behind.

Lots of speculation, I'm not going to pretend I know whats going to happen. I do like the speculation of some, that Mueller knew Trump was going to communicate with Manafort, so their answers match up- but Mueller already had evidence the answers were not true.
It ill be an interesting couple months. Papadopoflopolous just went to Jail yesterday. Flynn will soon be sentenced. Cohen will soon be sentenced. Butin is supposedly in a plea agreement. Democrats take control of the house in January and can then issue the subpoena's republicans have been blocking.
But its gonna get worse before it gets better.
