I'm going to chime in here in favour of rolling forward to server fixes, and losing DM bots. DM bots are fun, but not essential, and not all that useful for introducing new players in their current iteration. More important not to have the bugs.

Dumb miners are better, miners should be almost entirely player responsibility, and are not difficult to manage once the basics are explained. Easily predictable miners are better for new players, because it makes them easier for new players to find and shoot.

On another note, I haven't been able to build and run a test server locally in a really long time, which has probably contributed to the delayed fixes. I've definitely had time to look into server-side stuff that I haven't been able to test. Specifically, autopilot bugs that make ships miss targets for certain combinations of mass/thrust.

@Backtrack: if we're only looking at months, not years, for some rudimentary full bot AI, then I'd wait on the coin drop for that. I have the video mostly done, but then I got hit with a week/weekend of unavailability due to IRL stuff, then I accidentally fried my i7-3770 that was acting as a server, so I moved my desktop to server duty and the replacement won't arrive until the 6th, so I'll get the video done next weekend. That and I'm waiting for Raveen to fix a narration error, but its minor.

Fun story: I had a 650W power supply from a Dell Poweredge that I was getting rid of, and wanted more power on the i7-3770, so I figured "why not?" - well, it turns out that despite using standard ATX power connectors, the wiring is nonstandard, so it promptly blew up some part of the 3770's motherboard. :bang: Intel's 8-series is still meltdown susceptible, so I went and bought a 2600x. Not money I really wanted to spend right now, but it'll be a nice unexpected upgrade.

Hi Lans,

Done, and done! (East1/2 were updated with the latest yesterday).

I'll PM you some server setup instructions that should make getting a server up a whole lot easier for you.

Sorry to hear about the blow out, nothing worse than being exited about an upgrade to only have it self-destruct.

(These are also in the docs folder under the Alleg source).

Thanks!

Uninstall Daffodil (from windows control panel), make certain all your projects are using the proper tool set, and look at the executable directories "Evaluated" and "Inherited" values to see that they are pointing at the VS2017 installation. I got my environment screwed up when my $VSdirectory was misrepresented. I think it happens when you install the VS2010 and uninstalling and reinstalling stuff didn't seem to fix it.

My next task is to liberate the project from the daffodil and early VS installs so that it can be built with VS2017 standalone.

I really wish you hadn't pulled the bots.

So I'm not sure what the order of what happened with miner AI. It did not get rolled back to the working version though- this release is even worse than the previous one. It worked fine prior to steam release and at the steam release.

me too... I was going to use them for screen shots for marketing. I'm confused about the poll... Seems like option 1 was the most popular, and would have kept the bots.

Hang in there, I almost have something playable for bot testing.

Now that the servers are up to the latest version, are the issues fixed, or are they still present?

The last miner AI I played with (Yesterday) was worse than the miner AI Radfulr had been credited with. The miner AI Before steam release (and the previous 5 years or so, and right after steam release) worked great. Really the only issue I ever had with them (the long time running Miner AI) as a commander, was them deciding to walk to the closest sector to dock in a sector owned by both teams. Other than that, they were reliable behavior wise, ripped instead of walked as IC when attacked, really were (other than the mentioned docking in mutual sectors) totally fine IMO.

I had an IC miner being attacked, it did start moving on its own- but did not teleport on its own. They used to rip home when being attacked right? I certainly had a rip at a base- I ripped it manually right after.

Nev had a miner go through like 2 empty sectors no where near his base for some reason when being attacked, instead of walking 1 sector to where he had a base.
