Total US worker compensation is actually increasing and has over a long period, but most of it is going into healthcare and related benefits instead of direct salary, so it doesn't seem as such.

Highest one-quarter GDP growth since the Obama administration! Woo hoo!

Since we can all agree the Obama economy sucked, can we agree that not even surpassing that bar must be terrible?

What you have to understand, Cashto, is that Trump is just the biggest and smartest president ever. So this is the biggest one-quarter GDP growth of ALL TIME.

I mean imagine what he could do with his carefully reserved supply of finite energy and the power of being "president for life"

"Trump’s GDP paints a picture of a booming America. But the one most Americans live in is a bust."

come on, really? QZ (aka the Atlantic iirc?) is quite biased in my experience. the economic doomsdaying seems to be based on cherry-picking the facts that portray this in a bad light. I prefer this NYT article (also known for its leftward lean right?) https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/27/busi ... y-gdp.html

well that's a fair point, but GDP growth during Obama's time was very erratic and was also entirely fueled by stimulus spending. the boom today is more a result of market confidence due to business friendly policies like lower taxes and less regulation.

i mean, i love to bash Trump as much as the next guy, and lowering taxes while spending more is an iffy proposition to say the least. but if this kind of growth can be sustained, then who knows? it might be worth it.

I thought the article Brood posted laid a pretty convincing argument that the boom today is more a result of consumer confidence in America and a lack of confidence in the future availability of American goods at these price points.

Also, if booms are the result of deregulation and lower taxes, what the hell happened in 2007?
