for RH mainly.

big IT companies are struggling to find good coders and IT managers. All their developments and projects are only limited & paced by human resources. Cash isn't a problem they have too many cash already.

MS already bought LinkedIn and now github.

They can keep an eye on what is trending , what startups are working on behind the scene (private repos), promote their cloud (Azure) and mostly importantly track and find new devs before other big IT companies snatch them.

With LinkedIn & Github they basically have the whole 'social graph' of everyone important in software development.
