I agree with this. I also don't want a dumbed-down version of alleg, don't care if that would get us a gazillion players because it won't be alleg anymore

Also stop with the "bad default controls" mantra because if someone won't spend enough time to re-map the controls he/she is probably not gonna like the game anyway. I've never heard anyone complaining about the bad control defaults for IL2, which are beyond unusable (with some critical controls not even mapped)

stop complaining about 'dumbing down'. It's a red herring.
Annoyances and obstacles do not make a game interesting and knowing how to work around them or having learned to live with them does not make you a better player. It just means you're willing to put up with @#(!.

Making the game more accessible is not the same thing as dumbing it down. Quit using that stupid excuse for doing nothing.

I agree somewhat with that statement. What I'm trying to avoid is forcing a user friendly feature upon others who find them to be annoyances. The inventory map is a great example. We want new players to be aware of it, it should be on by default for new installs however, it still needs to toggle so that it's not blocking the view (which we're getting a lot of complaints about). The minimap needs to be proportionate to the screen size and not block the view either. The chat lines that now invade the cockpit view is another "feature" that many have complained about.

Changing the game for the sake of accommodating new guys is great as long as it's not imposing upon others.

What Wasp said and making the training missions either totally useable or shut them down until they are actually fixed and tested and send players to youtube or something.

QFT

Also, we're talking about modding the UI.
The UI is not the game.
The mechanics are the game.

You'd think someone suggested we get rid of nans or limited ammo or something...

The inventory can and should be made nicer.
If I weren't sick and with a borked PC I'd be making mockups right now.
Two weeks ™.

Same for the minimap and other HUD elements.

Two?!

I'm close to ODing on paracetamol. And the antidote acetylcysteine too.

BTW I have been drawing mockups and stuff in my little notebook with my little pen and you wouldn't believe how many fixed UI elements there are in the HUD.
29 is a conservative estimate.

Do you know how many text streams there are in the HUD?

There's FOUR permanent ones and at least one more.
Chat.
The red bit below the chat.
The "you have donated" etc. at the bottom.
Recent orders. (Top left)

There's also the area where messages about poddings appears. That's the fifth.

You think Allegiance is a 3D game?
It's actually a stockbroker's ticker machine!
