Is anybody actually playing Star Citicen?
My regret is that Starfighter Inc. didn't get past Kickstarter phase. that had the makings of being Alleg 2 far more than ED or SC.
I rather like the slow pace of dogfighting in ED, partly because I'm old I guess
But for me it's all about position and power rather than pure twitch skills. It's the same sort of mix of skill and cerebral fighting that I always liked about Alleg, just mixed differently. Obviously I've not played SC so I don't know what the combat's like there, although I hope it's not as boring as combat in Freelancer.
The bit of SC that I'd be interested in is the SP campaign, because we haven't had a decent SP story based space game for 15 years or so.

SC is about positioning, ultimately all shooters are I think, it's just at a faster pace. SC has no spread on its projectiles, afaik, so to score a lot of hits you have to get a fairly close up firing solution, and to score more hits than your opponent means you have to get in and dance. Since the ships are relatively agile, and there are a lot of things that can be done to trick your flying pattern (various flight modes plus boosters, systems management, and some ships have in-flight configuration changes coming down the pipe), it's going to be a long learning curve and require a lot of skill to establish a superior firing solution. I am old too, and I regret that I'll never be a top notch fighter in SC, but it will be fun nonetheless. My favourite ship is the smallest ship in SC, and my favourite style is annoy and runRaveen wrote:QUOTE (Raveen @ Dec 5 2015, 12:07 PM) My regret is that Starfighter Inc. didn't get past Kickstarter phase. that had the makings of being Alleg 2 far more than ED or SC.

The Merlin is so sleek and beautiful. Is it possible to carry and launch them from my Constellation yet?
Naysayers....maybe hitting 100 million will shut up the idea that Mr. Roberts won't have enough money to make the game however i doubt it.
Actually i have always worried that the naysayers would look pretty foolish when the game is released (just the Squadron 42 single player) It will be amazing from what i have seen and heard so far.
Star Citizen will demand the skill all the past players of Allegiance have developed over the years however they not be getting any Kill Bonus which i was always against. In Golf a good Scottish game you don't give a bonus to the best players you give a handicap to make it more even. That won't exist in Star Citizen so an experienced pilot will be valuable and expensive to hire! Talking to you guys.

Have not played it myself but was watching my bro play and can confirm SC ships having the ability to strafe in all directions, fly backwards and shoot your chaser, etc, so seems pretty allegiancelike. I'll definitely be buying my copy once the game is finished.

don't know if i mentioned the ships i have.
Avenger
Cutlass Black
Anvil Hornet
Aurora (because its a Classic) i'll be keeping that in the hanger as an antique
Origin 325A Fighter
Origin 315P Explorer
Misc Freelancer
Misc Starfarer Tanker
Constellation Andromeda
all LTI so i would rent them for a share of Convoy Profit depending on what we were doing. Once the PU is released.
It will be the small convoys that make money early on.
Buy the cheapest ship you want that gets you into the PU and earn all the rest.

Good to hear it's coming together, I hope it's a good game and not Freelancer 2 or worse, which has always been my concernsunrodent wrote:QUOTE (sunrodent @ Dec 14 2015, 02:27 AM) Star Citizen will demand the skill all the past players of Allegiance have developed over the years however they not be getting any Kill Bonus which i was always against. Regarding KB in Allegiance, I can see why people don't like it but the point of it is to give players a reason or choice between killing pods or letting them float home. Do you get rid of that 40KB or let the pilot sit in a pod for 5 minutes whilst you do something more useful? Whilst the bonus itself may not seem fair, I think that's an excellent dilemma to place players in.

Hey i won't take anything away from Allegiance i was there in the beginning and then couldn't get internet. When i did i found Allegiance.org and was very happy.
i understand the mechanic and loved picking up a better pilot while risking my life it was so exciting. The dilemma. There is so much i love about allegiance my dislike of KB is a grain of sand.
Also it was obvious i loved finding a ship shot to hell almost dead with a high KB trying to make it back to base. I only flew scouts that was the only time i would attack...laying some mines etc.
even then i rarely succeeded but i got some pretty good pilots that way in my day. i think its real and my heart gets crazy lol.
