Isn't this the sort of thing that Google and Apple do as a matter of course in their mobile OSs? Not that that makes it ok by any means of course, just a point that it seems to be the way of the world that tech companies want our data.

I think most large corporations have their internal computer system configured to keep the company secrets safe.

I can also imagine an (interim) manager who uses his private home computer to work at home. It might get worse with temp contractors or freelancers. They might simply buy a cheap W10 laptop, fire it up and start working on "future strategy analysis.docx".

Moving more and more to "the cloud" and M$ statements about how much they are willing to share with "the law" makes me frown too.

Yea, I know Google and Apple have similar ideas, but there was a choice to stay with a less privacy invading OS. Now M$ seem to have chosen the "grab my data" route too, there are less mainstream OS-es left. I do not see many "home" users move to - say - Linux Mint.

For me W10 in it's current state is an accident waiting to happen.

Is there a significant performance jump to warrant converting my perfectly good win7 pro build?
Nope, more likely to encounter the opposite.

Windows 10 is just a paintjob over Windows 8, including the Start Menu which is a hybrid between Windows 8 Tile Interface, and it's @#(!ty All Apps page. Multiple desktops are cool but just a gimmick, can use software on Win7/8 to get multiple desktops. Cortana doesn't work well at all, just a long workaround to essentially bing something which is also still worse then google.

There are some improvements in Windows 8 over Windows 7 but nothing unique which can't be replaced by some other software, Windows 7 is a better OS. Windows 8 is ok but really there is no reason to update to 10 from either of those.

Most Windows releases are mostly paint jobs. They made the transaction to 64 bit with 7.Adding support for things like USB 3.0 helps, but the rest is mostly paint job.
