I still wouldn't have been able to join as the other team stayed 1 up until the game ended.One-Man-Bucket wrote:QUOTE (One-Man-Bucket @ Mar 30 2015, 03:29 AM) this problem is solved by always leaving defections on. maybe we can get it turned on per default?
OK, it may be time to restrict booting
Aight time for the happy TL/DR stuff:
Booting:
Booting is basically a way to tell someone they're being too obnoxious. There are a lot of ways you can be detrimental to a team: one is to be afk (it happens). I've had people sit (like you did) because we were up one, which is fine! But then a couple of people join their team so I'm going to ask you if you're there. If you respond, great! Otherwise prepare to be booted. Not because I don't like you, but because afaik you're just not there.
On the other hand some people are just pervasively negative and their complaining drags down the team's morale. "We can't kill that miner, they have a scout on it!" "OMG there's no way to win from here, we only have half the map as BIOS 10 minutes in with mini2 picked up!" These attitudes are infectious and, to quote Henry Ford (noted anti-semite and manufacturer of great pickup trucks and @#(!ty sedans), "Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right."
Finally sometimes you screw up *so bad* that the com has to make an example out of you. Anyone who claims this has *never* happened to them is lying, either to us or to themselves (or more frequently, both). Maybe you ordered a miner away from a base. Maybe you bought a cruiser and went straight into a camp. Maybe you failed to pick up counter 2 against rix, PAPSMEAR. The fact is, by booting you the rest of the team often (not always) comes into sharper focus: no longer are they going to simply durdle around shooting at things and hoping for the best, they know that their right to play the game is on the line, so they shape up and play better.
Some people abuse the boot button. The solution is simple: don't fly for them if being booted really matters to you. Many people (myself included) will take being booted as an invitation to go watch TV or do something else, so I don't mind joining boot-happy commanders.
But taking away the boot button or making commanders check over their shoulder when they want/need to boot someone isn't a solution.

Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain.

This topic is ironic because lack of booting is what got us where we are today.
With the community so small though it is probably better to "mute" instead of "boot" though.
Unless it's drizzo ofc

I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
raumvogel wrote:QUOTE (raumvogel @ Mar 29 2015, 04:44 PM) Yea, maybe turn the boot feature off for awhile (it's been done before) and the commanders will just have to accept what ever behavior from the players they let on the team in the first place. People have to use the bathroom sometimes. I was booted for base sitting AFTER I VOLUNTEERED TO STAY IN BASE BECAUSE OUR TEAM WAS 1 UP!
raumvogel wrote:QUOTE (raumvogel @ Mar 29 2015, 07:40 PM) Why would I do that when the team I was on was suddenly losing due to an un-expected bomb run, then we go down players because of the boots. No, I didn't feel like re-joining the team that just wrongfully booted me.
I'm confused... You've been booted because you didn't respond to a bombrun (you didn't notice that they were no longer down a player)?raumvogel wrote:QUOTE (raumvogel @ Mar 30 2015, 09:33 AM) I still wouldn't have been able to join as the other team stayed 1 up until the game ended.
Or there were multiple boots?
Multiple boots. I was sitting because we were up one. Then my comm booted another guy for base sitting and me as well.I assume he didn't sewe my post when I volunteered to sit because the other team was up one.Djole88 wrote:QUOTE (Djole88 @ Mar 30 2015, 02:30 PM) I'm confused...
