I just got the beta.

Sound is premium stuff, really awesome, as well as the gfx but they really need to work on the controls and the accessibility.

geez it's way too hard or may be I'm just rusty with space flight & combat ;)

I've tried with KB&M and also with a game controller (XBox 360 wireless controller).

That level of difficulty could repel a lot of people. They need an assisted/beginner mode, at least.

I didn't even find a way to activate the mouse cursor (a toggle like Alleg has) to use the UI. It's all key/button navigation in menu and such.

Is the social stuff working ? any Alleg group in there ? my nick is 'Kirth Gersen' if anyone is around.

(and yes i'm too lazy to read the Elite forums and wikis and whatever. In 2014, I expect from an AAA game to provide detailed information, tutorials and help from within the game).

I have an Oculus Rift but it didn't detect it so I guess 'some reading/googling' are needed ... sigh.
edit: found the VR settings. it's quite impressive and I experimented 'no VR sickness' unlike some other VR demos and games I tested.
The pilot arms and the inside of cockpit is all eye-candy stuff but work quite well.
One nice thing: Turning the head toward the left or right of the cockpit activates the corresponding UI panel. pretty neat.

Ok, you guys need to see this. Isinona is the best Elite pilot I know of, and the crazy guy/gal always flies with Flight Assist off. It's like vector lock in Allegiance, except there is not attitude stabilisation. You have to counter thrust manually to stop any turn or rotation you start.

This is Isinona doing a smuggling run, right under the noses of extremely trigger-happy Federal security.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbaLJTGHkj8

Watch it, and ask yourself if you'll ever be a pilot of that caliber. ;)

Honestly that seems to me that this will be a major sticking point. I bought at alpha, farted around a few times with kb/mouse and controller and went gah this @#(! is hard *waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah* promptly putting it on the back burner. I don't mind having to work to be decent but I do mind having to put n lots of time to just do the basics. You hook me than donkey punch me in a nut shell. *shrug* It was alpha after all and it is probably time to give it another go.

Probably the same as the preorder. $50.

I think they really want to try to make it WW2 in space with strafe and reverse.

They want to stop people circle strafing, but dont seem to realize thats whats going to happen no matter what they do, as long as they have side thrusters and reverse?
Hell in jumpgate people still circle strafe, and that has no sidethrusters and no reverse.
This encouraged me to edit a Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumpgate

More epic gameplay from Isinona. Who buys the Elite version of a Transit-van, and thinks "Now it's time to break bad"?

If my transit van had shields and a laser on it, you know I would. :mrtank:

The hauler is like the worst technical in Northern Africa. Others have mounted heavy machine guns at the back, this one has a revolver in the glove box.

Yes, technically it has shields, and it does have one badly placed, smallest size gunmount. What the dude or dudette does here is kind of like wading into fights between fighters, interceptors and gunships with a basic scout and no missiles. Makes for a good show though, and not just because of the piloting. Getting the Feds to kill that Anaconda with a marginal bounty was beautifully done. If any of the anaconda's plasma accelerator blasts had connected, that would have been it though.
