Because someone who had the ban keys felt he was toxic to the community.

It's a fair request to call for Elzam to get banned, for the same reason.

there is a straight fact here, even if this is a community of real people playing a game and being connected to each other, this is nothing compared to a real life situation, i think people in general takes some things too seriously, come on, its a god damn game, if we are to make the fate of the world lie upon one person (metz) then what are we? pussies that cant stand the flame ? i've given total $#@! to what he has done or said, he rarely ever told me anything but thats because i have a very low profile, wich is what im used to in general, having a low profile, i dont give a damn what others say as long as i can play and shot stuff and talk to people in general.. i dont know if he ever made someone cry or make him leave the game forever, but man that one person should be ashamed of "feeling" like that over an internet comment of someone you dont even know and has been like this for ages. im the kind of guy that will keep out of circles of people that i dont care because they are not just like me thats all, i think we all should try to do something like that and give less attention to this kind of err bullying i guess? its not like he punched you in the face or anything, he just blabbed bull@#(! like he is used to. you tolerated his behavior for years and out of the blue you ban him, i really dont care, i dont support any of either dome or metz, but i think the problem is people paying too much attention to negative behaviors when they should focus on positive ones.

i mean comeone, we will never have a 100% friendly community , wherever is light, there is dark right? without dark there couldnt be light and without light there couldnt be dark :\

i have trouble explaining myself my home language isnt english but i think it was kind of clear, basically we, as a whole, take negative aspects too serious...
i mean if people where like i said, not giving a damn about other's insults or cyber-bullying (wich i think is a bit exaggerated word for metz), things wouldnt have come to this.

i really think we should try to just avoid or ignore bad words and prise the good ones. sounds hard but its the internet, its very simple.

And, just to give dome a bit of relief if possible, there is never a 100% gain on anything, for everything we do or want, something MUST be sacrificed, maybe a player in this case for the wellbeing of the community, we will find out.

MW,good point. But Elsam hasn't come close to the amount of incidents discussed on these boards. Partially because I've been around so long, I've seen it happen. I've also joined PUG's where someone had just logged back in with their hider, ask why they were booted (and these were obvious newbs),then swear they will never play the game again because of the abuse they took from Metz as comm. Elzam has yet to get anywhere near that kind of abuse.He may make the game look bad when he posts that we are all a bunch of *#$@s, but I bet he never told someone he wished his brother would die because he's gay. I didn't hear the mumble conversation, but I bet even Metz would admit to doing it.

kaizer, you also make some good points. But the newer players tend to be under 25 years old (some under 18,which technically they shouldn't be playing).
I'm an old kute, and can more easily brush off stuff like that. Younger people have a harder time taking it less personally. If dome wants to shorten the ban,fine, but if he doesn't I understand why.

This is part of the reason I want to try to dev an auto command. More experienced commanders (Metz is one of them) expect a higher level of skill from the players. We don't have a big enough community for that right now and if people don't have fun, they will leave. It's not like back on 2003, there are a ton of other games out there. A core group of people are are putting a lot of effort into developing and advertising the game to make it grow.

One bad apple CAN spoil the bunch.

alright, so after all that i suggest to DOME: consider this ban a second yellow card, allow him to return when you think its appropiate, but if he does not manage to hold his tongue still, even i doubt it, give him the the red card directly and for good.

i know you will do that.

I think majority will agree that the problem is not with ban duration or "need", the problem is that it was an impulsive action by Dome. If it wasnt him, it would be someone else to ban Metz eventually.

Masta was banned for the similar behavior years ago. Bans are used as a tool to change behavior. Do you think Masta will change his behavior?

A ban with a duration of a day/week/month will not change anything, he will come back, laugh and continues with the same @#(!...

There was a discussion within enforcement about that and we ended up to approve Dome's rash ban.

Unanimously, actually.

Had the offense been different, the ban would have been commuted. Dome's actions were just the impetus and shined a spotlight on the behavior we have all been looking the other way for years.

Everyone gets mad from time to time, and for that reason we don't hand out bans on each and every individual personal attack. But in Metz's case, his constant attacks amount to a pattern of bullying which we all felt was disruptive and extremely detrimental to the community.

I'm sure plenty expected this to happen at some point since he was un-perma-banned. How he's been acting over the last two years, I haven't witnessed, but I've heard stories given a refresher of news and updates.

If behavior can't be corrected, then you're left with one of two alternatives, live with it or don't. This decision one that I personally agree with for the sake of having a healthy community.

I'm glad the drama hasn't died down since I left.
