I still think STEAM is the only hope we have to save this game... yes a serious long shot through their Greenlight process.

No, that's not possible and this has be already discussed:

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

Okay, it seems pretty clear that we cannot approach Steam with this game because we do not own the Rights to do so.

How about putting together an electronic petition to MS asking them to make the game available on Steam.

The worst thing that can happen is they say no or ignore us.

I think in the petition we would have to explain all the technical advancements we have made to the game and so on... which of course I could not speak too.

In addition, mention how long we have been playing this game and ask them to come check it out!

I would gladly add my name.

good game @#(!ty community.
You need to be more specific. Good game but there are a FEW players (considering how many are left) that couldn't care about making a fun game with a hint of competition.
Always been the case though. There should be a rants museum post to repeat this in 50 different languages / postings.

I specifically refer to the AFKs who could have tried to start an even game early, but decide to wait and then magically join after a even game is going just so they can personally destroy the other team and feel good about themselves. (and then proceed to rack off the feeble excuses on why they expected XX vet to join, or I didn't know you were down 2, or so what if he is a newb comm, you were Giga on high money or Bios on Nova or blah blah...wtf who cares anyway...games dead and they helped it on its way).
Nothing new, just wish there could have been more benevolence, or that the benevolence that was brought to a game was respected instead of being shat on.

As I stated in another thread, in October I'll be testing a way to post the game to all of the download sites. Maybe that will help.

I've been playing Natural Selection 2 lately, and they got a nice system where at the very least you can run around the map or ready room and muck around while you wait for commanders to step up to the plate.

If Allegiance had some sort of passive pre-game deathmatch/free roam which was ALWAYS running, as well as some practice bots, then hopefully the game could stay interesting enough to keep a small handful of players occupied until someone wants to command and enough players show up for a conquest game to make sense.

Allegiance is a good game, but sadly it's one that is boring to watch, so videos don't seem to help it much, at least from what people have told me, they all think it looks like @#(!. (Trust me I've tried to convince people otherwise, its hard)
Allegiance isn't very newbie friendly either, most players just want to jump straight in and blow stuff up, not run through half a dozen dull tutorials and study a game manual, and then to be berated and yelled at, even booted, once they lose their newbie status... I'm sure we lose a good deal of players which are in the intermediate stage, who no longer have a number next to their name, but which still have a lot to learn about even basic game mechanics.

Ah well, I'm just stating the obvious. I still try and give this game a mention whenever appropriate, but the game seems to have just kinda spiraled down into a rut.
