How DO you recall 50,000,000 kg of meat?

The latest meat scandal in NL, a meat processing company mixed cheap horsemeat (from uncertified quality) with beef, and shipped it to a kazillion other companies, which put the meat into frozen- and instant meals, and god knows where. They made a nice profit.

It seems some meat is consumed.

Anyay, another fine Google Translation below:

This is the 2nd scandal in Germany about horsemeet in just two months, and it shows that the meat production system is out of control unless you buy it from a local butcher.

What i don't understand here: I thought horse meet is more expensive than beef.
I have a johnson photo in my profile since 2010.

From what I understand they use meat off old horses, and these horses have obviously been injected with various chemicals to optimize their performance which in turn enters into our food chain and obviously these chemicals may have negative effect on humans.

(I am actually not sure if I am getting troll baited by lexaal)

Over here beef is over 10$/kg and horse meat is under 6$/kg (shop prices, and horse meat is quite rare so prices are most likely inflated).

So depending where was the horse meat coming from it didn't even have to be from old horses ;)

It is! This stuff must be bypassing the normal veterinary controls.
