that is about 10% as annoying as the continual use - by nearly every US politician - of "middle class" as a euphemism for almost all of the us population is. Its like a reverse Golgafrinchanism.Adept wrote:QUOTE (Adept @ Oct 12 2012, 11:37 PM) The euphemisms and misused words from Ryan were hurting my brain when watching it.
For instance "small business". Any time he's talking about tax cuts to business it's always "small business", even though what he really means exactly the opposite.

The Poor
The Working Class
The Middle Class (some overlap with the working class)
The Wealthy
Now uh... some people may feel insulted if you don't refer to them as Middle Class.

"we dont believe that unelected judges should make this decision" -Paul Ryan on abortion.
Who makes those decisions then? The people? (was his actual answer) It turns out, Mr. Ryan, that pro choice has beaten pro-life in opinion polls since the 1990's. Recently, there has been a downward shift, but is still the majority opinion.
I loved watching Biden treat Ryan like a misinformed @#$%@#, because he is. Ryan had zero policy alternatives to point to (because they have none). Ryan couldnt come up with a single thing he wouldnt do differently for foreign policy besides "not apologize" and "not seem weak"
"we agree with the 2014 timeline" but were going to criticize Obama for it. No, $#@! you., ya privileged douchebag. If your idea of strong defense is a bunch of soldiers committing suicide in bigger numbers than from gunfire, then you can just $#@! right off back wherever you came from. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have been fighting 2 pointless wars over the last decade and all you can think about is how we need to spend more time there to "secure our gains."
Biden schooled Ryan, on fact and on substance. Its too bad he didnt make a better performance out of it. He could have handed Obama the election right there and then if he wasnt such a douche about it. Now the republicans can lock arms over the lack of decorum issue and no part of the substance of the debate will be talked about.

I don't want to talk @#(! on Republicans...actually, screw that. It seems most of the GOP voter base just simply ignore reality and believe what their "gut" tells them. If you look at the Twitter responses after the debate, most major Republican elites and followers either called it a tie or said Ryan did a better job (by virtue of not being as aggressive as Biden) - but I suspect they were going to do that regardless.germloucks wrote:QUOTE (germloucks @ Oct 12 2012, 11:10 PM) Biden schooled Ryan, on fact and on substance. I was chatting with a so-called Republican buddy online during the debate and he was watching a completely different show than I was. I don't want to generalize one example to the entire voter base but he's a Ohio voter who hold moderate social views, but he couldn't help but fall into the Republican mindset when the debate was on: "Biden is a liberal elite, I feel like I'll get dumber by listening to him, Romney was right about the 47% being lazy slobs, the fact checkers have a liberal bias..."
At least after the Presidential debate, Democrats were either willing to concede that Romney won or presented himself much better while Obama seemed out of it.
The Republicans had no problem praising Romney for his performance when he went back on every single policy stance he's been campaigning on since the primaries.
To be fair, very few people actually care about the facts or substance anyway. Biden, while he presented his policies much better and rocked Ryan on the normative questions also told a great many lies and half-truths...less than Ryan but still enough to undermine his platform if people cared to consult fact checkers, or cared about FACTS in the first place.

+ Whoever said basically the same thing about Biden's performance earlier.CronoDroid wrote:QUOTE (CronoDroid @ Oct 13 2012, 05:31 AM) If you look at the Twitter responses after the debate, most major Republican elites and followers either called it a tie or said Ryan did a better job (by virtue of not being as aggressive as Biden) - but I suspect they were going to do that regardless.
Whether they mean it or not, people in general are pretty susceptible to bias based on who or what party is perceived to be doing the talking, regardless of what is actually being said.

Based on the post already infecting this thread, it seems I am the only (last) member of the Allegiance community who is conservative. Biden showed himself to be an old geezer with no respect for the younger generation, while Ryan was respectful the whole time. If Biden won, it was because he focused on the future, and not the failure of the last 4 years. He doesn't have much of a record to go on. I mean, 16 Trillion dollars in debt? That was Obama, not Bush.
And for all the Anti-Romney-ites out there, I really hope you have been checking Romney's website over the last few months. I'm fairly sure that his statements on that website haven't changed. And either way, if they have changed it is because he actually listens to the American people.
I look forward to crushing you all in combat soon. Slinkies...

Some people are like a Slinkie. They aren't good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Biden was disrespectful to be sure, but it wasn't because Ryan was so much younger. If Ryan was the same age as Biden he would still have acted the same.
Ryan was respectful the whole time just like Obama was in the Obama-Romney debate. It is just the nature of their characters. But I don't see Republicans attacking Romney for interrupting Obama so much.
16 Trillion in debt is bad, but it is the result of: Every single President since Andrew Jackson. Not only Obama. The poor economy has been brewing for quite some time as well. Plus, Presidents have relatively limited impact over the economy.
Bigbelly, you are young, I used to be just like you - with blind faith to everything with an ® next to the name. But I have grown up and seen both sides and forged my own way. And someday you will too.
