Okay, so there are a few muslim-related threads out there right now but I thought I'd put this here.

I had never really known anything about Muslims before, I just thought they were regular people blah blah blah... but I've recently talked to a few Muslims. Some of the things I hear is mind-blowing. It's not just "oh God did this etc etc" but rather being completely misinformed about the history of the world, including where science came from. In fact whoever came up with the idea must have been a genius.

From what I can see, there is no early conflict between religion and science for these people. These people are taught from the beginning that Islam is the founder of science, and is the reason science exists in the entire world. Of course there are probably more examples,but I think this one is the most important. I tell a Muslim about science, they say, oh yeah, the Quran invented science! Not that it's any tricker than any other religious lies, but it certainly seems to get at the heart of the issue. That, and the lack of proper history teaching.

Because it's not like the Greeks had anything to do with science. No need to read about them!

I think this was more of a rant than anything. It's kinda depressing. In the end I wouldn't blame Islam alone, I think that just happens to be where some of the worst poverty is.

I think the islamic attitude to science is possibly semi-justified in that a lot of what they did was worked out from first principals or based on remnants of greek works. At the time they were the only scientists in town (China being a different town altogether) and have just as much claim to scientific genesis as anyone else.
