The great debate
I doubt anything you do to party structures is going to do much in the end. The real problem is the voting system itself that doesn't do enough to discourage voters from lying -- voting for their 3rd favorite candidate because they appear more "electable" with the general public than 1st / 2nd.

I am totally being honest here. It is good to see an opinion like yours. As an American, I feel that more of us need to see what "outside" people think of what is happening in our country.Adept wrote:QUOTE (Adept @ Aug 30 2012, 01:05 PM) I'm sorry but that sounds like apologism. Show me some links to such attempts to disenfranchise republican voters Camaro, I'm quite interested. But! And this is a big but, even if you can show some, it doesn't excuse what the republicans were doing by one iota.

I've been watching the coverage coming form Tampa, and I'm thoroughly disgusted. How can you guys run a country when 50% of the political space is taken by a party that is all about naked selfishness and defending the privilege of the rich and powerful... and how the $#@! is that party managing to portray itself as the guardian of christian values? Are your christians in general a horribly selfish and intolerant bunch? I'm no fan of religion, but I can't see how the republican party message, and the teachings of Jesus fit together in any way![]()
My take on the Republican party mirrors what you state. But many people in this country (some of my friends included), think that they can do no wrong. It scares me as I'm into history, and it reminds me of another party that everyone went along with because they thought it would bring them personal prosperity.

The best observations about finnish society for several decades were penned (opinion pieces and funny writings in papers) and broadcast (brilliant TV series) when an Englishman called Neil Hardwick chose to move into Finland in the early eighties. I have no idea why he decided to come here, but it was great that he did.raumvogel wrote:QUOTE (raumvogel @ Aug 31 2012, 04:42 PM) I am totally being honest here. I'm a big fan of outsider perspective myself, so I appreciate the sentiment raumvogel. Thanks.
Obviously I don't actually live in the US, so my perspective is only that of a Nordic Countries news junkie
Btw, the convention in Tampa has made the Daily Show crew put out some of their best ever stuff: http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-augu...can-change-that

<bp|> Maybe when I grow up I can be a troll like PsycH
<bp|> or an obsessive compulsive paladin of law like Adept
Because the other 50% of the political space enacts practices that benefit the financial sector and other rich people as well? What do you think all this crap about "everyone having a home" came from? It is terrible economics, it just benefited the financial sector and then they got bailed out when it all burst.Adept wrote:QUOTE (Adept @ Aug 30 2012, 07:05 AM) I've been watching the coverage coming form Tampa, and I'm thoroughly disgusted. Don't think for one single second that either party actually cares about its constituents... just the big money that funds it.
I don't apologize for anything, I just feel compelled to call out unfair assessments against one side of the story while ignoring the other side.
There is a reason I've grown to dislike both the Republican and Democratic parties.

Yeah you called it out Cam, and Adept asked you to show him the money, iirc. Similarly, however, I also can't advocate voting either Republican or Democrat.

Seriously everytime I mention that book, I can't find a person that doesn't judge it on the movie instead of judging it on the book itself... Or that has actually read the book. "I think it promotes militarism because amazon reviews told me so, but no I have not read the book"
Long live the MI
