This is not me.This is not Cookie. This is the face of the people who stole Christmas for millions this year. That is what makes me a cranky pants.

OK, I got that out of my system:

Jingle you're bells!

Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh yeah

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

If you pay up forward

Yep you're confused. Im not praising the lay away but the spirit of giving that went person to person. Someone paid off the person's lay away and they took the intended payment and paid off another strangers bill.

I have not seen a lay-away program in NL, so I learned something.

I can see the warm thoughts of a person paying off a lay-away.

I think the last one can not participate in helping another lay-away due to lack of money. Otherwise he would have bought the item itself and not participate in a lay-away program.

What about warranty? Suppose it takes half a year before you get a - say - mp3 player and the thing breaks down. Does the warranty start when it's lay-away or when you do the final payment? Or does the shop not lay-away the item but gives you a stock item of the shelf when you do the final payment?

Lay aways are basically a thing of the past pre easy consumer credit. You put the item in lay away at the sales price to say a few bucks and once paid off it is yours. If you can't get a credit card in the US you are really in a world of hurt, so a lay away user is a symbol of someone who is really hurting financially. All warranties start at receipt of delivery so until the thing is yours the warranty doesn't start.

They used their payment to help another. It may have been for the entire amount or a portion * shrug *. Rather then just going muh ha ha ha someone paid of the thiing, they turned around and put it toward someone's elses bill.

edit:

Boiling it down... I got flat footed on this one at the level of non-comprehension and Wurflet's anomosity

I read an article on strangers going into Walmart, a store for the masses ( I shop there too ), and read the word lay away and went :o I didnt even know they still had a lay away... how bad do things have to be for you that someone would need to use a lay away at Walmart.

It got me to reflecting on things, which lead me to decide to do something randomly nice for someone myself.

I'm aware that do to beliefs, practices or whatever people happily do NOT celebrate any version of Christmas. * shrug * There are any number of holidays I happily ignore myself. However if you DO celebrate the holiday either the religious or secular version ( I have a friend who is Jewish who I exchanged gifts with for years and years, something he started ) then one will understand that a @#(!ty Christmas is well @#(!ty. I personally don't care if it helps someone who does or does not celebrate the holiday fwiw.

I have, for years, been practicing this form of charity, quiet random and unexpected. It makes me nothing more then a grass roots checkbook do gooder.
