Look, it's simple. STFU and play. Really.

If you're so jaded with the game that you can't bear to play anymore, then please ... just STFU.

Don't just sit there on the sidelines and piss on the people who actually like this game, who actually play this game, who have actually improved their game over the years, that actually are concerned about the very real erosion of the player base. Frankly I don't care if you ever come back. You weren't very good to begin with. You have nothing of value to offer to the real community. All you do is bitch about how the community sucks. How we're all twats and you're Mr. Awesome. GTFO. We don't help newbies anymore like Deng and Romeo used to? $#@! you, you don't even play. You haven't helped a goddamned player for years. In fact ragging on new players like zero and alien is all you do. Take your concern trolling and personal attacks and dogpiling elsewhere. It's doing 100x more damage to the community's image than Mageinta warriors or Weylin's CC posts ever did.
Okay.

Well I didn't expect that response. Now I feel kinda bad for going off on you like that ...

But serious. I tried to remove as much bile as I could, but this stuff really gets my goat. I can live with "alleg is dying" topics ... it's the ten pages of OMG STFU NOOB that follow it which is just plain unhealthy in this community. We really do suffer from a lack of positive attitudes ... tho I may have contributed to it just there ...

+1

Also, I'm not really that 'new' of a player. I started back in 2007. It is odd how I am considered new.

the voob meter is basically the inverse of how much you ask about being or not a voob. you just flared a big YES on most people voob detectors (who cares about anyway? lots of 'vets' suck balls)

All a "voob" is, is someone who is a veteran by time played, but still plays like a noob... hence voob.

I admit to misusing this word on a fairly regular basis.

The playerbase is eroding in no small part due to the idiocy in-game and that is only being reflected here on the forums. I've been gone for a year and a minute of reading these boards tells me nothing has changed.

The problem isn't new player retention. Its old player retention. Game quality is what attracts the kind of players you want to keep and that quality is directly related to the skill levels involved. The more vets you drive away the worse your games are going to get and the more you're going to keep suffering with retention. As MrC pointed out, STFU and play is not the answer. It is only a means of driving away even more of your established playerbase. They're venting on the forums because they don't like where things are headed. Telling them to STFU is only going to leave you with the people who either don't care about the state of the community or are part of it.

What really you need to be asking here is: "What caused so many of our vets to leave and how can we try and get them back?"

My $0.02. Cue the "STFU Xere, you don't play anymore".
