Allegiance closes on launch
make sure you update display adapter driver

These bugs haven't been fixed yet because don't have any developers interested in fixing them up. --Tigereye

I use a laptop so any of my spare graphics cards are of no use but i am very certain that it not a hardware or graphics driver issue.
I think the problem is that a file or files that Allegiance is dependent on is either being corrupted or not being allowed full access, i make this assumption because the problem occurs with bad installations of VS10 or Microsoft updates (i managed to eliminate Norton and Samsung tools as a problem by removing them). Right now all that could help is being able know find that specific file or update causing the problem.
I guess if nothing works i can start with a clean copy of windows and download only necessary drivers, instead of restoring from the default image that came with the laptop or maybe just restore and disable windows auto update. - will try those later.

I have this same exact problem, except I'm running Windows XP with a nVidia 7300 GT graphics card, and Windows XP. I doubt your graphics adapter is the problem, zer0.
Although for me, the problem occurred as soon as I installed the program. Works fine on beta mode (training missions et al), and in windowed mode. But windowed mode isn't of much use anyway.

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
Well short of reformatting my computer with samsung factory nothing else works.
I even tried installing my own copy of win7 then installing only essential drivers and i am still getting a problem.
This is what the error shows:
