Live camera if you want to waste your time. #4 spent fuel pool spews some steam from time to time:

If you look long enough, you may catch the odd hot pixel indicating, possibly, a gamma ray hit.

No, seriously, I think every time tsubaki posts, there is a woman involved.

A hero is not one who never falls, but one who gets up again and again, NEVER losing sight of one's dream!

We have to hope this encourages more investment in alternative fuel sources and energy conservation. Trying to solve the environmental chrysis with nuclear power was always a doomed idea. If for nothing else, then because that is only an optio for wealthy developed nations. We need distributed power generation, and options that are implementable on the small scale in less developed countries. This is a global issue, and keeping the lights on in the West isn't enough.

For all the awesome power potential present in the materials we use for nuclear reactors, we're still just using it to turn water into steam via heat.
That's right. Our Nuclear Reactors are GLORIFIED TEA KETTLES.
There's *got* to be a more efficient way of converting that @#(! into electricity...
Isn't nuclear power one of the alternatives to fossil? Seems like what we need is a more reliable way to completely drain this fuel. Stuff is still flying off of it, killing other stuff, so it's got potential. Just need to herd those neutron cats into a propeller that will blow the kite into the marble on top of the plumbing works so it knocks the hammer to hit the diving board, dumping the man into the bucket to drop the net onto the mouse.Adept wrote:QUOTE (Adept @ Jun 17 2011, 09:16 AM)![]()

And we all know those developing countries could use less mice. So it's win for all!

Nuclear does have potential, but it's way too risky the way it's being used. Finland is the only country that has it's act together with the responsible burial of the waste too.BackTrak wrote:QUOTE (BackTrak @ Jun 17 2011, 07:50 PM) Isn't nuclear power one of the alternatives to fossil?
