That's a very good point.

In fact, if a newbie is on the ball and interested in the game (play it a lot) and rises through the ranks quicker, they are actually punished for it because the sooner they get to (5) the sooner they'll be booted for not doing something properly.

Edit:

A simple way to have some sort of compromise would be extending newbie protection to @AFS.

It makes sense to cut AFSers slack seeing as they've shown some interest in learning the game.

I actually give AFSers even more protection as they are actively trying to learn.

Related sillyness; Newbies that are advancing faster in ranks typically have less desire (from what I've seen) to want to join AFS because they "know what they're doing". While it 'may' be true they have some very basic understanding they figure AFS is not worth the time. Two-sided edge there, first more promotion of AFS as super-dooper training and slapping silly newbies who think they "know what they're doing" and get them to join AFS.

To fix this player problem, I feel we need to do the same thing that would fix the economy... get Obama's birth certificate. Because that is the REAL issue here!

I feel deeply honored that our country has located Obama's birth certificate. Really, it honors me so much that we've accomplished this very important task. You have no idea how great it feels to be so honored.

I think you mean sword, edges are generally two sided :D

When BEFORE with allegage they got 1-3 months of semi-active playing to "know better" instead of the 1-3 weeks (I personally think this is part of the playerbase droping). Heck even HELO was gentle because the newbies still had a gentle curve out of their newbieness.

Again, not saying go to allegage, saying use it as a maximum cap on a players rank (this primarily helps the newbies anyway).

The haha rank system at the start of this post could actually be simply done with asgs feedback (or something more serious than haha. And it'd probably be more accurate than what we have anyway. Not that I'm advocating for it but it sounds interesting none the less.
So, wait, you think that the issue of "jerkbag newbs who think they know everything and never listen to anybody" exists solely because of ranks? AllegSkill is far from perfect, and it's very easy for a lucky newbie to end up with a too-high rank. However, a dumb jerk who makes stupid mistakes and ignores good advice because they have an overinflated sense of their own importance is a bad player regardless of how long they've been playing.

I never said solely, I'm not sure it's even a majority of the reasons why it's an issue.

Few issues are ever simple.

After not playing for two or three years, and then jumping in a game the other night, I can honestly say that I now have the correct rank.

LOL, you stepped down because nobody would work with your incompetent ass. You were clearly unqualified and incapable of bringing ANYTHING of value to the development of Alleg and after a couple of months of doing ZILTCH, you hit the road. You're not fooling anyone with that bullshiat.

QUOTE Let's knock off the name-calling, the accusations, the ridiculous hate for anyone in power, and the constant trolling and maybe, just maybe, we'll attract people with skill or, better yet in the spirit of Allegiance, train them up.[/quote]It is that ridiculous logic that further proves you are completely clueless. The game has already reached the point of no return and the ENTIRE community is no longer enough to keep games attractive enough to draw or build talent. Even with the obvious reality of what I have just mentioned, which can be verified via Leaderboard and Squad Roster, slapping the "admin" right in the face, they sit in denial with their head in the sand pretending all is well.

I can't help but laugh when, after more than a year of exposure to this situation, you still fail to grasp the obvious.

only thing I'll say to this is that our playing population has more than cut in half in the last year:
