As you [admins] are almost certainly aware, OT is being flooded with bots and our mods are playing whack-a-mole with them (they now post in existing topics generally saying hi as well as making their own posts).

I thought I would make a post here about it so I can be told that we need to wait for an official patch for the forums as it's a previously unknown security hole being used, that the patch exists but T[E,B] hasn't been keeping up-to-date with applying them.

I'm going to suggest that we add captchas and stuff to the registration process to be told that we are still following thal's policy of no unofficial plugins and that no official plugins exist.

I'm also going to repeat my suggestion I made in a thread made by a bot that has since been deleted which is: Based on the observation that the bots always/mostly go for OT we should be able to make a honeypot to trap them in - a subforum with an invisible link for the bots to follow - so they still register and post, but not in a forum that users usually visit.

We will get a new forum software soon because the current is not updated/supported anymore as posted by TE somewhere(?).

Until that honey-pots or other slipshod solutions will do it.

I personally it's quite polite of them to keep their spam in the Off-Topic forum. Manners never did cost anything!

Yup. I did. At least in the case I'm talking about. The spam was posted in a legit thread, and you replied to it. Once the spam post was removed, your post was entirely out of context with the potential to cause Drama when others read it without the benefit of knowing you were responding to a spam post.
