Check and post the log files found in your game directory (sorry, I can't look up the exact names at the moment).

I suspect you're experiencing an ACCESS VIOLATION which usually means a corrupt image (or sound) file. The logs should tell us. (and welcome back ;) )

A re-install seems to be the simplest and easiest method. (you might want to copy your inputmap1.mdl file first, located in your /artwork folder - it contains your key mappings. Then just copy it back after the re-install, over-writing the default one.

I had this the other day. The re-install didn't help. I found it to be an issue with my soundcard not being selected in cotrol panel.

Well, it confirmed that it could create a Direct3D device. That's a good thing. It still doesn't indicate the exact issue, though, but it's a start. There's two things you can try. First, just set your textures to use the low settings. Let us know if that works. If it does, but crashes when you go back to high res, it may be a memory limitation on your chipset. I suspect you have an integrated graphics chip with a default of 64 megs. (At least the info I've found on the chip indicates that to me.) So let's try the first bit (lowering the resolution) and see how it goes. We can try increasing your video memory later if the first part cures the problem.
