So recently I commanded a game. The enemy (Ryujin) pushed an op (I was giga and couldn't kill it), so I needed to clear it for mining space. So I bought bombers and an op to push into it.
First, we fake-bombed the op and succesfully bombed their expansion.
I caled for another bombrun to their garr, as we then had ints, nan2 scouts, and bombers and had a good chance of intbombing them. Nobody showed up.
So I pondered who to boot. The problem is, I'm never sure who I should boot when THE ENTIRE TEAM IS OFF FLYING CIRCLES WHEN i WANT THEM LOW IN NANS SO A BBR CAN LAUNCH. I can' just boot the entire team, as then I have no team.
My question is:
How do I decide who to boot?
I realize that my rank has stagnated at a 7 (thanks allegskill) despite me learning more about the game and continually improving as a player. I see voobs with (9,10,11...) doing useless crap and not listening when I comm. Is it my rank? Is it my GB tag? I don't see you flying circles when +spideycw@sysx(21) comms. And FFS, how do you expect players to learn how to be good commanders if they can't command small latenight main games with teams that at least reasonably listen? I didn't even have a chance to think about strategy, miner/economy management, map control, or anything of the sort because I spent the entire game TALKING IN ALL CAPS AND USING VCs TRYING TO GET NANS TO THE BOMBER TO a) kill their garr and win the game, and b) kill their op to make space for me to mine.'
I don't consider myself anything of a good commander, or a good pilot. But I am learning and making an effort to improve.
Booting useless players
Just pick whoever was not nanning on the last run
Boot 1 if 4 didnt nan out of 10
Boot #2 on the next run
Boot #3 ont the next run
Those 3 players will come back and do 1 of 2 things. Nan or join the other team
Some my yell at you and call you names but just do what spidey does and get on all and say "nan next time"
I assure you they will nan
Give my suggestion a try and if it helps let me know
Just dont boot me:)
PS or just do a spidey and boot all 4 who failed to nan:)
Right spidey? Thanks for not booting me and my SB in that PARA vs Saro game
I know you really wanted to:)

its probably a combo of those things. People respect visible commanders and try to impress them by being useful without having to be told. Also, when getting told something they imagine it is the smartest thing to do so they dont question the order themselves. I have on occasion booted over half my team because they were not listening and work with the people who do listen and once we start doing work more people join. It generally takes a while though because not many comms boot half their team if they still have a chance.
The best way to boot is proactive booting. You tell your team at the start "everyone go xxx except for __ __ and __ (or whatever)" and whoever isnt doing what you told them get rid of them. The team wakes up then and gets focused. If someone just happened to launch in the wrong sector on accident and you booted them just say "double check next time! " or "no worries, rejoin!" etc. Starting to boot when things go wrong is a common mistake of all commanders i see, because by then it is often too late.

I'm not talking about booting when things go wrong, more often than not that's the comm's fault. I'm talking about booting for players not cooperating when there is a clearly defined single task to win the game (intbomb their garr against basic tech, and its a 2.2k walk from the aleph to the garr, and you can get to the garr sector uneyed)
I didn't boot you because I can't deny you tried even if you failed.ryjamsan wrote:QUOTE (ryjamsan @ Oct 12 2010, 11:39 PM) PS or just do a spidey and boot all 4 who failed to nan:)

Those who were booted were NOT trying at all.
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday
