Hi all! :D

I'm playing allegiance since 2 days and it's fun! :)

I have to admit that i didnt discover allegiance recently, but in reality i encountered it back 2 times!

- in 2003, cause i was in an Xwing vs Tie Fighter Italian team and, as some of you may know, xvt uses directplay. In that period i had just changed telephone carrier and my internet conn ended in a NAT network, preventing Xvt from running online. Looking for replacements, i found allegiance too, but unluckily was running on directplay too, so unable to use it.

- in 2005/2006 (dont remember the exact date) microsoft decided to purge pratically everything of what remained of the old MSN Gaming Zone (how many Age of empires games i had played there...). Some people of the old Xvt community organized a sort of "online protest" in the last days of the service and i went there too for "solidarity". But being still under a nat network, was unable to use Xvt, so i looked again for replacements, and reecountered allegiance again, still with the same direct play problem.

Luckily a few months ago, i changed again my telephone carrier and now im no more in a NAT network. :D
So it ended up that i have again refound allegiance somehow on youtube, and here i am!

A nice thing about allegiance is that it looks like it has more "depth" then Xvt, that was mostly a team deathmatch.
Coming from a background of RTSs and Racing sims having to "study" for playing isnt a problem at all. :P (apart from finding the time...)

Btw, a few questions:

- I'm using for piloting an old "Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3d" usb joystick without FF and the keyboard. Seemed to me btw that most users are using mouses online.
Any suggestion for joystick users? (im already using dxtweak2 for adjusting calibration)

- Does FF makes a difference here? (in racing sims with racing wheels is absurdly important, in many games with joypads is pratically useless)

- Is there any Italian pilot around? :P

- Is there an ingame way for saving replays? (not fraps)

Hello and welcome! As an old hand at space sims, you should feel right at home (my poison was Wing Commander, but same difference.) :D

Allegiance has depth like the ocean. Some people focus on the dogfighting, some on infomation warfare (probing, scouting, stealth aspects) some on commanding... and the very best excel in all of it. The biggest difference to XvT is that you have to get your head around thrusting freely in every direction, and the pseudo-newtonian inertia. When it clicks, you'll never want to go back!

Joystick is fine. Force Feedback sticks are great for the precision and adjustable centering strength (as low as possible!), but FF effects hinder rather than help. Allegiance needs fine aim at range, and the stick bucking under your hand does you no favours. Turn on "Quadratic Response" from the controller options in game, and use the smallest deadzone your stick can manage. I use a Logitech Force 3D Pro, smallest deadzone and 1% deadzone set in the stick software. If you need help with adjusting, just PM me (you'll need 10 posts to unlock your mailbox).

In addition to the ones mentioned by MrChaos, Animhalo@SRM and Raingriffin are Italian. I'm sure there are more. Welcome aboard, and I hope to see you in space

Benvenuto tra noi Fds! :D

This game has "depth" all right, but that's what make it so much fun ;)
I'm generally online in the evenings, feel free to contact me in game.

Welcome! I've seen you in game a few times - you're catching on fast.

As far as NAT is concerned, it's not a problem for Allegiance anymore. We fixed that in R4, I believe.

You can save your scores at the end by clicking save on the end game screen, but you can't record any footage without programs like FRAPS.

Zoom is configurable. I fly with a joystick, so I have the zoom function mapped to the hat on my joystick. When I'm turreting, I switch to virtual mouse(?) (zero on the number pad by default) and my zoom key is now my joystick throttle.
