Jimen wrote:QUOTE (Jimen @ Jun 9 2010, 04:17 PM) I think the issue is that chat lines are limited. There's no point in yelling "THEY'RE COMING TO ATTACK OUR MINERS, D MINERS" if it immediately gets pushed off the chat by four lines of "Jimen@XT(.MinerXXX) goto Garrison" and a couple of con orders - anyone who knows how to switch to command wing likely has the situational awareness to notice the rush or realize I just ordered all my miners to base, but a newbie who knows how to nan but doesn't look at the minimap every ten seconds will end up sitting around being useless. I spam the hell out of the chat whenever I want anyone going anywhere anyway, since nobody actually pays attention to miner/con orders; I don't think I'd notice a significant difference in pilot performance even if everyone was FORCED to stay on attack wing.
Spam is always going to happen, more likely to have an order being replaced by spam rather then drone orders. Tell newbies about how to use Page Up and Page Down to scroll through chat.

Don't touch the $#@!ing miners noob.

Those who don't like the big glowy red text about every little thing will still be able to switch back to echo or wherever, and will have exactly the same number of keypresses as they have now.

While you're in there, LANS, try to find and remove the bit that changes your wing back to 'attack' whenever you give up command. That one's my pet peeve.

I'd be happy to supply a patch that records your default wing as a registry option of the last chosen wing. If people are still interested in this idea reply and I'll get it done.

Do you know how to get the allegiance source code? (if not, let me know and I'll get you instructions)

Just out of curiosity, how would you pass the registry setting back to the client?

I already have built working compiles of the client. There are settings already stored in the registry I would access it similar to how the client already stores and retrieves these settings.

Alright I have a basic patch for saving the wing assignment. It worked for me. Wasn't too sure on where to hook in the sending of your wing since the server defaults it and not the client. What I did was hook the wing assignment appmsg in WinTrekClient::HandleMessage, check if its for your ship and it's not what your last wing assignment was, and if its not set it accordingly.

Its a patch for the R5 tag, I can patch it off a different branch if needed.
