Hey there. I've decided, like others, I'm going to re-map my keys because the default layout is less than charitable. I was able to get some good keys on the go... But I wasn't sure which ones are most important. =/
So I've got a few questions on the subject. :D

Are there some functions that are un-necessary, and I do not need to waste space on my keyboard mapping? If so, what are they?

Is there a recommended key layout that I can adopt?

Any more tips when it comes to laying my keys out?

Thanks in advance, guys. xD

If you are in AFS there are a few Keymapping threads and I've posted my bindings, along with a few other players, as example.

Well, mouse. I tried my stick, but it's quite a bad one... So I went back to mouse. xD

Mostly you need to carefully select the targetting keys. There's a nearly endless list of options, most of them redundant. You really need to prioritise, like Target Enemy/Friendly Bomber, Target Enemy/Friendly Miner/Constructor, etc. Having good targetting keys (ie. carefully selected and easily accessible) helps your response time a lot.
